The note on that table reads, "Significance level from Student's t-test (gender comparison) or Analysis of Variance (age and race comparisons)." So if you are trying to replicate their results or compare results from your experiments to theirs, that would be a good start. I recommend the book Statistics in Plain English, or whatever intro statistics textbook you may have used in your stats class, for revisiting the logic behind these tests, and where they should be used. It's far better to understand the basic stats behind the tests than to simply select one and throw data at it.

This is a tough question to answer. In reality, there is no best answer. A good place to start is Wikipedia. From the article on decision trees: "An optimal decision tree is then defined as a tree that accounts for most of the data, while minimizing the number of levels (or 'questions')." The section entitled Association rule induction links to two references to learn more about this, and about algorithms to determine the best decision tree for your data.

I'm not sure why that doesn't work, as that was my first answer. Anyway, you can use Perl regular expressions like so: data test; variable = "1 045"; rid = prxparse('s/\s*//'); call prxchange(rid, -1, variable); drop rid; run; Here are two references: [1], [2].

I see you have a space in the directory "IFRS 9" in the file path. Can you escape it with a backslash ("IFRS\ 9") and try again?

SAS is definitely a great tool for your project. Have you started your analysis, or are you new to SAS? As far as asking "is there a significant difference between...", you can test these statistical hypotheses using SAS. A great reference would be this paper by Art Carpenter. For regression, I would recommend you start by reading through Regression with SAS, a free eBook from UCLA. They explain many SAS concepts well, and have code examples. There's also a great page on sasCommunity.org about PROC REGRESSION with various model types. Another book I just found is A Handbook of Statistical Analyses Using SAS. It looks to go through some good examples in detail. If you put some work into the code and come up with specific questions or issues, I am more than happy to help more.

In the past, it was relatively easy to import/export editor abbreviations in .kmf files. See tip at sasCommunity.org. In SAS EG 7.1, you can go to Program >> Add Abreviation Macro..., but what if there are several abbreviations in a .kmf file and you don't have text versions? I can opent the .kmf file in notepad.exe to recover the code, but is there an easier way to import the file directly? For examples, see Abbreviations/Macros on sasCommunity.org.

Yes!! I'm a big fan of Poka Yoke. I would be very interested to read more on applying it (and other lean principles) to data science. I hope you do present at a SAS conference. I've been enjoying reading papers and presentations from conferences on sasCommunity.org, and hope to present someday myself.

SAS time values are numeric, meaning you can do math on them. That said, try something like this. You can change 8. to another numeric format. data WORK.time_test; format time time8.; time = "14:04:46"t; put time; format time2 8.; time2 = time; run; Output data set: time time2 14:04:46 50686
