Hi, SAS/ACCESS to PostgreSQL is not a valid way to access Redshift data. In the beginning, Amazon pointed people to a PostgreSQL ODBC driver. It was problematic. That is why they created and Amazon Redshift specific ODBC driver. Right now (and this may change, soon), the preferred method to access Redshift from SAS is via SAS/ACCESS to ODBC combined with a Redshift ODBC driver. Amazon and DataDirect produce ODBC drivers. ****** UPDATE****** The preferred method of accessing Redshift data is via SAS/ACCESS Interface to Redshift. ***********************

Hi, I discussed this with one of the developers. Here are 4 things that typically cause issues: 1) not enough RAM/CPU for the CDH Quickstart (we've already discussed this - it may be the actual problem here) 2) Hive crashed while the Quickstart was coming up (Clark had you explore this one - it could be related to 1) 3) Diskspace on the Quickstart is full (Since it is a new environment I doubt this one is it) 4) SASWorkspace shared directory is not setup/configured properly (I would double-check this) The developer pointed me to a description of how to collect logs from the Quickstart configuration. Here are the instructions. You can collect logging information from the CDH Quickstart (it will work with Hortonworks, too). Here's how: Go to your SASvAppLedger: <ipaddress>/SASvAppLedger Click on "Jobs" Click on "Collect vApp Logs" button Go to <ipaddress>/SASvAppLedger/resources Find "logarchive" There should be a "...tar.gz" filename and it is a link. Click this filename on the page that comes up, click "link" This brings up a dialog box which allows you to save the log zip file Take a look at the resulting files. You may be able to see what the problem is. If you find the problem please post the resolution here. Not knowing what the problem is has Clark and me flustered;)

Hi Chen, Clark and I have been trying to break this all afternoon. Everything I try works. Like Clark, I just got it to work with DL (4GB) and CDH (8GB). I am running on a huge PC (32GB RAM). I am not sure what Clark is running on. Probably a laptop with 16GB of RAM. How much RAM does your machine have? Best wishes, Jeff

Hi, This is going to sound crazy, bear with me. The fact that the errors keep changing may indicate that required processes are not fully running. Make certain that the VM is allotted 10GB of RAM and 2 processes (if possible). Reboot the CDH VM right before you leave for the day. Make sure that it comes up, but don't run the Data Loader configuration utility. Try it again in the morning. Sometimes it takes a while for the VM to come up and for all the CDH services to start. If this doesn't work I will replicate your environment and see if I can get it to work. If we are unsuccessful we need to open a tech support track.

Hi, I think Clark is on the right track here. I have seen problems like this when services were not running on the Quickstart VM. You can use Cloudera Manager to make sure things are running. Oozie is required for the configuration wizard. Make sure you give the CDH VM enough RAM (Cloudera says 10GB minimum) and 2 processes (if possible). I typically give it 8GB - if you are planning on leaving all the Hadoop services running it will need more. I typically stop things that I don't need: HBase, Solr, Spark, and others.

Hi PJ, From the traceback I see that you are using the CDH 5.4.2 Quickstart. Unfortunately, that is not a supported CDH version. Here is the line from the traceback. 2016-01-12 06:36:44 USER[Unauthenticated] - [0;36mDebug: CMD local: version: cdh5.4.2[0m CDH 5.3 is the supported version. Unfortunately the CDH 5.3 Quickstart isn't available from the Cloudera page. I am going to contact the Data Loader product manager and let them know. I will also reach out to Cloudera and see if the 5.3 Quickstart is still available for download. I will let you know what I find. Best wishes, Jeff

Hi Alex, This is most likely a configuration issue - typically missing JARs or config files. I experience this problem about twice every month. Since you are using Kerberos finding the cause of your issue could be difficult to do via the SAS Communities. The best way to proceed is to contact SAS Tech Support. They will take a look at your configuration (JARs and XML config files) and may have you run standalone connection programs that will help determine if the problem is with the SAS or Keberos configuration. Hi Bwasicak, SAS cannot read the BIGINT data types. There are a couple of ways to handle it. The first is to have your DBA create views which CAST the BIGINT columns to a character data type (@LinusH's recommendation). You can do this, without creating Teradata views, using explicit pass-thru. I have pulled some slides covering using SAS with Teradata BIGINT from a workshop that I used to deliver. Hopefully, they will help. If the slides require clarification please let me know. Be careful with TRUNCATE_BIGINT. Doing calculations using BIGINT columns could very well be problematic because you can get incorrect answers. http://support.sas.com/kb/39/831.html
