We do not provide additional details beyond the section scores that are shown on the score report. No item level detail is provided. The free practice exam provides item level details and explanations. The performance-based questions carry more weight than the standard questions.

You can switch User Interfaces during the exam. It is important to close the first before opening the second. I think that the nature of your question regarding file access and libraries shows some possible misunderstandings in what libraries are used for. Libraries are needed to access data, not program files. You may want to spend more time reviewing libraries ahead of the exam. More on Libraries: Accessing Data in SAS Libraries SAS Libraries Also, SAS in the exam is regular SAS software. So establishing a library once makes it available for the duration of the SAS session.

@JosvanderVelden is right that passing the Advanced Programming Professional (A00-232) will get you nothing without also passing Base Programming Specialist (A00-231) and that you could take them both on the same day. But on the specifics of "The only caviat is that you need to have completed the base programmer exam with success before you can start the advanced programmer exam. " - There actually isn't anything in the system that would prevent someone from taking Professional first - but doing so really doesn't make sense.

Hello @Nietzsche I can't stop you from going through this effort - but I would comment for anyone else reading this thread: No one should be using this guide to prepare for the current Advanced Programming Professional certification exam. It's not just that exam was updated since this book was written - the A00-212 exam was retired and replaced with the new A00-232 and corresponding credential. Yes there is some overlap and in broad strokes both cover SQL, Macro, and Advanced Techniques. But there are many content and format differences, as the new A00-232 includes performance-based lab activities. You can retake it on the 15th day. (If you took it on a Friday, you can take it 2 Fridays later). You log into your SAS Certification Manager account and book the exam.

0 - If the lab fails to load immediately (rare), contact your proctor for resolution. The lab should load during the initial 10 minute (prior to the exam clock starting) introduction portion. 1 - True, if you have changed the keyboard language, you will need to reset it at the start of each project - 6 seconds required to do this. The method is in the introduction portion of the exam. 2 - Sorry, but the screenshot was removed because it was actual exam content. The red text that the original poster refers to was present in the exam and not added later. 3 - I do prefer that it were possible to navigate backwards while in the projects section. But it isn't, and this is addressed with a message at the start of the exam. The button that the original poster refers to is in the lower left of the review page and reads "Review All"

I would not recommend working from the old prep guide. This is from before the exam was converted to a performance-based exam, and the topics, especially in the advanced coding techniques, has undergone significant revision. The new guide also has a workbook section to assist with prep for the performance-based labs.

Hello @sarathmarson You didn't mention practicing with the the software as part of your prep. This is critical. Experience with the software makes a big difference, book learning is usually not enough. There are a few avenues to get access to SAS Viya Model Studio. SAS eLearning (the "Machine Learning Using SAS Viya" course - pricing and promotion vary by region) provides both the training and lab access. SAS Viya for Learners for those enrolled in university. - No cost! And SAS Skill Builder provides free access to the Machine Learning training for students as well. Coursera Machine Learning Using SAS Viya course provides both the training and lab access at a monthly pricing model.

Yikes. Slow down a minute. SAS On Demand for Academics does provide access to SAS 9.4. But it uses the latest/greatest user interface to do so: SAS Studio. When you say "SAS 9.4" I'm assuming that you mean SAS Windowing Environment, aka SAS Display Manager. That does not exist for free download, and I wouldn't recommend it if it was (my apologies to SAS coders who don't agree). Personally, SAS Studio is all that I use for my SAS coding. If your videos and notes are showing the desktop version, it should not be a stretch to figure out how to write this code in SAS Studio.

Take the free full length practice exam. This should be your last step after all other preparations are done. Don't make the mistake others have and work backwards from the solutions, actually work through each problem until you get the right answers.

Trust in the Exam Content Guide. You will find it at https://www.sas.com/en_us/certification/credentials/foundation-tools/base-programming-specialist.html It lists all the topics. If it's on there, you need to know it (arrays and raw data aren't). On that webpage, you will also find lots of great resources to help you prepare. If you are seeing evidence somewhere on the web that makes you think arrays or raw data are on the specialist exam, run away quickly - you are on a bad site.
