Does your EG connect to your local SAS 9.4 install or a server? If it connects to a server then it would be very likely to run without problems as long as the server is running properly.   I suspect that SAS wrote a log somewhere but the location for such at start problems could be somewhere in the C:\users\yourusername\ or the SAS program folders.    At various times I had IT cause problems with SAS by  : 1) removing the SAS Java installed files (ODS and graphics quit working ) 2) "re-imaging" my Windows registry removing all the SAS installed items or  3) reverting to an earlier version of the registry (SAS 9.4 doesn't run when the registry reflects a 9.3 install ) 4) changing my permissions to access files on my hard drive (breaking bits where files that SAS updates files no longer having write permissions) 5) Deleted about 200 program files and documentation 6) restored files from backup such that the more recent backed up files had a date component added to the file name and the older versions had the correct name. I spent months fighting with "I thought I fixed that" because the restore was applied to folders other than the one they had deleted the files from in #5.   Then there was the time they removed a connection in a patch panel 4 floors above and it took them a week to determine why I had no network connections at all...   Good luck.   ... I work at an environment where the firewalls block connection to internet. Therefore I'm not able to access the Visual Studio Marketplace via the Visual Studio Code user interface and can't install the SAS extension, which I would really like to have.   I read from this blog, that one could install the exensions offline with a vsix file (.https://blogs.sas.com/content/sgf/2025/03/07/install-vs-code-extensions-offline/) However, I wasn't able to find the SAS extension vsix file anywhere from the Visual Studio Marketplace or the github repository. You're right. The full connection string contains a lot more options, like this example: Provider=SAOLEDB.1; Data Source=your_server_name; Initial Catalog=your_database_name; User ID=your_username; Password=your_password; But I'm connecting to SAS 9.4 running local on my Windows PC, so the only REQUIRED option is "Provider=". The other options are needed when you are connecting to SAS Viya or SAS 9.4 on a remote server. I have to admit, the Power BI OLE DB connection tool did ask for my userid and password the first time I tried the connection - so I entered my Windows domain ID and password into some textboxes that popped up, but after that, it didn't ask for userid or password again. ... I had similar issue today ( may be not exactly). After spending several hours troubleshooting because the SAS EG will blink  and will not display. I was able to rectify it by partitioning (Windows Key + Left or Right Arrow Key) my desktop to see where SAS EG was hidden. That allowed me to find and expand it. ... View more

I know this is a really old thread, but I finally have a use for this - I've got a SAS dataset with hundreds of hospital diagnosis codes, and I only want to keep the code fields that have at least one non-blank value (to save space). I was going to use Sridharma's %DROPMISS macro mentioned above (it's hundreds of lines of SAS code, but it works well). While Studio is nice, it isn't as fast on startup and isn't as responsive. That was my take. I had a client where everyone had Studio and EG and the analysts all left Studio due to speed issues. They stuck with EG.   I am unsure on Viya adoption. If a client is staying with SAS 9.4, w/o Viya, EG works fine. In many cases, where EG doesn't do everything, you can build a custom EG Add-In and fill in the gaps. I have built numerous EG Add-Ins and they work fine. Thought I'd try my question here, before I pose a new question to SAS Community board. I've been stuck trying to modify a task template I created. I'm using SAS Studio 4.4, and I've saved my own task as .ctm file. But when I open it again, it opens as .ctk file, which is uneditable. I tried the steps you describe above, but I'm stuck at Step 1. I saved the task to My Tasks, but when I right-click it in My Tasks, I don't see Edit. The only options I see are: Open Task, Copy Task to Explorer, Add to My Favorites, Hide, Delete, Properties. Any idea why? Is there a permission or autorization I need to request from our SAS Admin?   ... View more
