I was involved with starting an in-house group at the City of Dallas called 'the Mainframe SAS Users Group' back in 1984, co-founded the local users group in 1986 that still meet each quarter called the North Texas SAS Users Group (notsug.org). I was a co-founder and past president of a regional called South Central SAS Users Group (scsug.org), and served 4 times as a SUGI section chair, 10 times as a SUGI session coordinator, and worked as a room facilitator with the SGF held in Dallas. One thing that's common at each level is the desire to share SAS with fellow SAS Users. The rest comes together. Since starting a group and being involved is volunteering, keep it fun.

SCSUG haven't planned our 2022 event, but were looking toward our RUG fall time frame. This change from SAS without advanced warning isn't helping in RUG planning for 2022. Hopefully SAS will move their events to spring/summer, but keeping the volunteer regional user group planners informed will go a long way toward smooth operations for everyone.

With this change from Spring to Fall for SGF, this will impact the regionals since they are usually scheduled during the fall. As a regional user group planner, my group's concern will be with the level of SAS support for our groups since we would be planning for the same time frame that the SGF will be held. There are other issues that will impact how the regional groups plan their next few forums.

Looking forward to seeing the demos and visiting the documentation area. There's always some cool toys to collect, so I'll make sure to get there early. And it's always good to see what wares the vendors are pushing to help use SAS better.

Hopefully a data needs assessment will help to determine what data is needed for SAS and they can do a shadow data lake closer to the users. If they are doing a lot of reading of operational data, maybe they should do scheduled pulls. Sounds like a fun project.

Solution 2 is your best option and easiest to maintain going forward. Set security at the highest folder, and as new data is added it carries the rights within the folders

Think of the PDV as an internal tracking or lookup table of system and data variables that you can query for info.

As a QA person, I would suggest that the documentation include at least what the requirements for the program are and how to maintain it, what it does and how. Having proper spacing in the code make it easier to maintain. Established naming conventions help. I wrote a couple of papers you can find at www.scsug.org http://www.scsug.org/SCSUGProceedings/2005/Jackson_Maintaining%20Inherited%20SAS%20Code%20-%20219.pdf http://www.scsug.org/SCSUGProceedings/2003/Jackson%20-%20WritingSASRight.pdf

What @KirkBresmer said. You can still do the macro var, but it is the same value as order_quantity

Thanks. So, what version control/change management tools does SAS use in-house? Asking as a CSQA and SAS user. I'm retired, but I installed PVCS Version Manager for our non-mainframe developers
