If you are interested in getting involved in the planning that goes into SAS Global Forum- be sure to visit the “Help Plan SAS Global Forum” booth in the quad. There are so many opportunities for users to help with planning content, reviewing content, presenter mentoring, volunteer coordination, etc. And members of the Conference Team and Executive Board will be available to discuss the opportunities available for you to help with the 2021 conference. It’s an exciting role! Serving as a SAS Global Forum Conference Chair means expanding your network, increasing your visibility in the SAS community, working with an amazing team of volunteers and SAS staff, and – A LOT OF WORK.
What should you think about before taking the leap and applying?
What are the qualities and competencies that the SAS Global User Group Executive Board looks for in their search for a Conference Chair?
What do you need to know about the Conference Team, their Roles, Responsibilities, and Structure?
And, who do you contact with your questions?
This document will help you answer the above questions and better prepare you on your Path to Leadership with SAS Global Forum.
To better understand the conference organization, leadership roles, and team responsibilities, review the details about SAS Global Forum leadership.
What are the responsibilities of the position?
The SAS Global Forum 2024 conference chair will immediately become a member of the SGUG EB. During the 2022 and 2023 conference years, he or she will work with the conference chairs for those years as a member of the organizing team. The 2024 chair will be introduced during the SAS Global Forum 2023 event.
Following the closing of SAS Global Forum 2023, the primary role of the 2024 conference chair will be to manage their assembled team to establish conference content that will attract and resonate with SAS users from around the globe. For a full description of the chair’s roles and responsibilities, please refer to SAS Global Forum Executive Board and Conference Team Roles and Responsibilities, specifically the section titled Conference Chair – Roles and Responsibilities.
What are the benefits of serving in this capacity?
Gain visibility in the SAS community.
Secure a leadership development role and experience on a global level.
Advancement of personal SAS skills and awareness.

Collaboration and networking with SAS leaders, employees, partners and executives.
How do I apply?
Submit a cover letter.
Include a conference experience resume.
Include a professional resume or curriculum vitae.
Provide two or three references.
Note:
Your cover letter should address your desire to lead SAS Global Forum 2024, your employer's level of commitment and support, your ability to devote time and resources to the task, and your vision of how you might enhance the conference.
Your conference experience resume should list the roles you have played in organizing and conducting other conferences, especially other gatherings of SAS users: regional, country, local and in-house user groups or conferences. Include how your participation has evolved if you have participated in different aspects of these groups and conferences.
Submit all of the above-noted information or any questions you may have about the opportunity to confchaircommittee@sasgug.com by April 23, 2021.
When will selections be made?
Candidates selected for interviews will be notified by May 10, 2021. Interviews will be held via video conferencing from late May through early June 2021. Final selection will be by June 15, 2021.

SAS Global Forum is the premier event for SAS professionals worldwide, offering unequaled educational and networking opportunities. The SAS Global Forum conference is planned and run by volunteers from the SAS community who collaborate with SAS Institute to plan all aspects of the conference including content selection and delivery.
SAS Global User Group Executive Board
The membership of the SAS Global Users Group Executive Board is primarily made up of past SAS Global Forum conference chairs in addition to five SAS Institute employees. Together this group provides overall strategic planning for the SAS Global Forum conference, support and volunteer assistance, as well as selection of future conference chairs.
What is SAS Global Users Group and how do you get Involved?
The SAS Global Users Group presents the annual SAS Global Forum conference. There are no membership dues nor is there an official membership list - all are welcome at the annual conference.
With so many ways to become involved in the conference, there are also many ways to become a conference leader (see the fun diagram at the end of this article).
