As the others have said, there's no stored process creation mechanism in SAS Studio beyond your abillity to get your SAS code tested - registration in metadata has to be done elsewhere. What we've been focusing on is integrating stored processes & Studio tasks since the functionality is similiar. There is hidden experimental functionality starting in SAS Studio 3.3 which allows users of the enterprise edition to access their stored processes in a SAS Folders tree in Studio and run them as tasks. To enable this functionality, the administrator must alter the config properties file to turn on experimental features (webdms.showExperimentalFeatures=true) then the user can go to Preferences -> Tasks and turn it on by checking "Enable Stored Process Adapter (Experimental)." This preference does not appear if the config file has not been altered. Once enabled, you can drag a stored process from the SAS Folders tree and it will open as a SAS Studio task. The code generated by the task uses PROC STP to run the stored process. Not all types of stored process prompts are supported. The main important omissions right now are dynamic prompts & date handlers. The Studio and stored process R&D teams are looking for feedback on this feature in general and specifically on what important prompt types are still missing. SAS Studio comes with the SAS platform, so each time you update SAS, you’ll get the latest & greatest SAS Studio, too. But what about when there’s a new release of SAS Studio but you don’t have the cycles to do a full SAS upgrade? Since so many folks have asked about this, we’ve come up with a solution. You can now get the most current release of SAS Studio, 3.5, via a hotfix if you’re using SAS in a server environment or via a download if you’re using SAS locally on Windows. For both of these methods, Studio 3.5 is added to your environment – it doesn’t replace any existing Studio versions and you can still use any other SAS interfaces (like SAS Enterprise Guide, for example). To see the hotfix (for the basic and enterprise versions of Studio), visit http://support.sas.com/kb/57/898.html . To see the download (for the single-user version of Studio), visit http://support.sas.com/downloads/package.htm?pid=1924 . Our plan is that each time a new release of Studio comes out, we’ll update these two places so you’re getting the most recent version. And, of course, you’ll continue to get new releases of Studio as you upgrade your SAS environment. Please note that SAS University Edition users don’t need to worry about this – each time there’s a new release of SAS Studio, University Edition is updated. So as long as University Edition is up to date, you have the latest & greatest SAS Studio.

I know it's tacky to reply to my own post, but figured I'd seed the discussion with my ideas and see if that generates any others (SAS employees have to submit their paper abstracts via our internal systems by the end of August, so I'm a bit short on time - yep, a selfish reason, I know). Tips for Programmin g Efficientl y in SAS Studio - based on the article posted in this community (https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Communities-Library/Tips-for-Programming-Efficiently-in-SAS-Studio/ta-p/239367 ) that talks about how to move your tabs around so it looks like familiar old Display Manager, how to move thigs around to take advantage of multiple monitors, shortcut keys, and so on - but add even more. What's New in Studio - there should be a new release of Studio out by then so we can highlight what's been added. Moving Between EG and Studio - what things are in place to help you switch between the interfaces & when might you want to use one versus the other. Perhaps add Visual Analytics into the mix here?

Not yet. You can use a subset of the delivered Studio tasks in EG but we've not yet completed the work to allow you to use your own custom tasks in EG. Very much on the roadmap as are lots of other ways to make it easy to move between Studio and EG. If you have other requirements or ideas, please post them!

We're not able to show catalogs and catalog entries in the navigation in Studio. Since there have been requests for this, snippets are delivered with Studio to allow you to investigate catalogs and catalog entries programatically. See the Working with Code Snippets section of the user's guide for a description.

You are correct that Studio doesn't provide a development environment for stored processes like EG does. We do have some experimental functionality in Studio to read existing stored processes & display them as Studio tasks. But I was hoping to drill in a bit more into your use of stored processes since we're trying to enhance the Studio task model to provide an alternative. Have you looked into creating tasks in Studio & if so, what were the things that you wanted to do that tasks didn't support? Looking for use cases to help drive development.

Believe it or not, we are already planning for SAS Global Forum 2017 and are looking to you to help us figure out what SAS Studio paper topics we should pursue. For the past few years we have concentrated on things like writing your own tasks, using repositories to share tasks/snippets, and if a new release was just out - a what's new (you can see the list of papers on the Studio doc page). Any suggestions for papers you'd like to see?

On the screenshot you posted, what should work is for you to click " Open SAS Studio without downloading the updates " then the continue button should be selectable at the bottom of the screen. If that's not happening please let us know.

This is a requirement we've heard but I don't have anything to offer you yet. The first folks that asked for this were other R&D groups at SAS. Other applications want to use Studio to, for example, view a table, open a process flow diagram, open a task, or, as you mention, open the editor with specific code already displayed. So basically "calling" Studio to come up in a certain state or with a certain asset open. So what the Studio R&D team is working on is a more generalized command line framework (for lack of a better term) to provide a way for other SAS applications to invoke a SAS Studio session and perform actions in another browser tab. I'm sorry I don't have an estimate for when this will be available, though. If you have a use case that doesn't seem to fit into what I'm describing, please post it so we can make sure to include it in the work going on.

One more piece of relevant info - Studio 3.5 (released 16FEB2016) added a batch submit feature to allow you to submit code and continue working or disconnect which is helpful for long running code. The new repositories feature is indeed in Studio 3.5 but we've had to delay releasing the doc you mention as we're waiting for a download to be ready that the doc uses in its examples. I'm hoping to have it all out in the next couple of weeks and will re-post here. So sorry for the delay!
