George, I hope you are already running a 64-bit version Windows and SAS.  SAS 9.4 is only 64-bit. With Eguide 6.1 that cleint will also 64-bit. If you have interfaces to office. .... (a Whole chain)  As noted Windows has more challenges, but these are not found at the SAS site. The easy approach is defining a permanent locations and name it "StagingArea"     The deletion and checking should be part of the program/project design. IF you think on keeping a dataset during a shorter period of time like a web-session the logic-requiremet is different. WS: IF you have followed the advice of WS running by the personal-key. Than that key is unique having an own SASWork area. Closing a WS-session should close all. (sysprocessid is an random number during the lifetime of a WS stable) The additional data could be created as submap of SASwork.  The physical name can be retieved by: %sysfunc(pathname(saswork))  This only works when no Mp-connect is involved. In that case and the requiement of possible sharing a temporay file at the %sysfunc(pathname(sasuser)) could be a solution. This only when sufficient storage is setup for that.   SP: These are started at first request and will run some time running at their Own process possible serving several requests from different users. Here you need to know the metauser-id.  _Metauser is a macrovariable.  The processid will be possible shared by multiple users as that is what a SP does. Question 33580-x: Is it Windows or Unix (Xenon processors).  As long as you have a segregation by port locations namings etc you can run multiple versions on the same machine. A good planning is needed for that segregation.  I can not find the old documents at the SAS side anymore. With Unix there is no OS-registry the separation is easy. I assume SASkiwi is running that. Ok rohit, You have the code and documentation. Your last question is confusing me as it looks having little experience on Unix. Unix: - The root-key is the holy grail you do not want to use without a good reason. Root-kits are with the bad guys, the blackhats.     - you have mountpoints defining the ammount of storage of storage pool. Needing "root" acces and (SAN) storage mangement - Security is set up/done by the "owner" that is the key creating the files/directories. Within a HFS you have to define a well defined structure with keys and groups to orgnize and the logic and the security that is associated with it. It is complicated and confusing when you have never faced it. Knowing all things like the special behavior lik gid-sticky bit on directories it is becoming seen "as usual". Some special versions of Unix exist adding some security approach of the far more advanced (of this aspect) MS-Windows. Hadoop is based in a Unix approach, never stop learning.    The instructions are about: - placing the sources. You need to store it somewhere. - placing all aggregated data and reprots. You need to run the code and update tables to do that. - You need to able to read the source-data (log-files) As long as you are the only person you could use your personal key.  Place it somewhere you have enough storage for that. If this key has limites access it will hold you in this environment (sand-box) If you are fine using a DMS system possible by a SAS/connect you could by-pass the metadata bi/di processing. Not very sensible are: -  sasinst as could be possible change unintended your SAS installation -  sassrv as kind of root keys to all SAS-data  and SAS customers and ....., could be possible change unintended delete or access something form those parts. So you need to define more keys for each dedicate segregated prupose under the condition of the requirement of strict security. As your using Citrix... Check the Citrix setup. SAS Product Support for Virtualization Environments There are a lot of notes on using it that way. Be aware that you do not have a hardware/performance as normally common on laptops/desktops. It can be setup very very limited ( 1 logical Cpu 1,5 Gb memory 10Gb dasd) as the goal is reuse of those hardware resources by many people.  It could be not enough. Citrix admins should review that as able in monitoring. The personal open Windows monitoring and information may give some hints.
