Instead of just us telling you why don't you create a file as shown and then run the data step to see what you get. Then try to figure out why. You'll always learn more that way than by being simply told the answer....

You can do this with Proc Freq - it might be more efficient than an explicit Cross Join on a very large table. data have; length letter $1; infile datalines; input letter $ numb; datalines; A 1 A 2 A 3 B 1 B 2 B 3 C 1 C 2 C 3 D 1 ; run; proc freq data=have noprint; tables letter*numb/sparse out=want(drop=count percent); run;

SAS University Edition is a version of SAS which uses SAS Studio as it's interface so in practice they are used pretty much interchangeably although technically they're not the same thing. The autoexec in SAS Studio (University Edition) can be found by clicking a button to the right of the words "SAS Programmer" in the top right hand corner of the screen. that opens a context menu one option of which is "Edit Autoexec File". It might be worth checking that just in case something has crept in there....

I agree with @RW9 - having a seperate file for each country isn't a good strategy and in the long run will lead to more complications than it resolves. However if you don't know which countries are in your file you find out as follows proc sql; create table countries as select distinct country from product; quit; Once you have that file you COULD, if you absolutely need to, write a macro to generate one file for each country using that as a control file but I'd strongly advise against it.

First do a proc Means to get your totals into an output data set proc means data=product sum; class country; var amount; output out=summary(where=(_type_=1)) sum=total; run; Then to get the maximum and minimum proc sql; select country, total from summary having total=max(total) or total=min(total); quit; A simple report can be generated with Proc Print proc print data=summary; var country total; title "Country Totals"; run; Of course much more elaborate reports can be produced with SAS but as you give no further details I've just shown the simplest method 🙂

A SAS program is just a text file so you can edit it in any text editor - my personal favourite is UltraEdit but each to their own (except I've never seen the attraction of vi - "It'll be nice when it's finished" has always been my reaction to it's arcane syntax...)
