Many thanks for this @FalkoSchulz. We don't have Viya, so having just upgraded to 9.4M7 in October we have the most recent non-Viya version of VA. This all looks helpful so I'll see how it goes. I'm applying hotfixes across the servers this Friday so will get the opportunity to restart services then. In the meantime I'm running the import program (love a bit of code, me!). Seems to be taking a long time to run PROC REDUCE but maybe I'm just impatient! I will let you know how it goes, and attribute credit where it's due.

Thanks @FalkoSchulz that's all quite helpful. Unfortunately, the blog entry seems to be fairly specific to VA 8.* (ie. on Viya) whilst we have VA 7.5 in SAS 9.4M7. There doesn't seem to be such a range of options available for creating a geography item, such as no option to define custom polygon shapes, only custom coordinates: The other thing I'm finding is that I can't work out how to use the shape data as well as a separate data set for the business data. I'm sure I'm being stupid somewhere!

Using VA 7.5 Having just got geo mapping enabled using the SAS OpenStreetMap service I'm experimenting with creating reports using it. However, I'm not sure how to identify geographies. I have some sample data for Scottish local authorities with 9-character ID codes (along the lines of "S12000001"). I also have a shape file containing the ID codes, X and Y values, and names so I can merge this with the data. I think the ID codes are probably ISO codes without the "GB-" prefix, so I've also tried adding that on to them. But when I use this as a geography, either with or without the "GB-" prefix, I don't see anything plotted. For the context I've tried using the various ISO codes and SAS Map ID values without success. I also tried using the names as Subdivision Names and this was more successful, but it didn't identify all local authorities successfully and omitted the City of Edinburgh, Perth and Kinross, Argyll and Bute, and Dumfries and Galloway. Can anyone suggest how to define a reliable geography?

@TeTe_BEC I haven't used the Content Assessment Tool so far but my experience of SAS on a Windows platform is that any user account with admin privileges can run this type of admin tool.

SAS 9.4M7 on Windows 2012 R2, with middle tier SAS Studio and VA 7.5 I'm trying to enable the geo mapping elements of VA, which requires access to SAS' Open Street Map servers via a proxy. For this it appears I need to add a number of options to the JVM, namely -Dhttp.proxyHost=proxy.domain -Dhttp.proxyPort=80 -Dhttp.nonProxyHosts=\"localhost|127.0.0.1\" -Dhttps.proxyHost=proxy.domain -Dhttps.proxyPort=443 Am I correct in thinking I need to add these to the JVM_OPTS environment variable in setenv.bat for the webapp, and also as extra wrapper.java.additional.xx= lines in the wrapper.conf? Do the double quotes in the -Dhttp.nonProxyHosts options need to be escaped (I'm guessing so, as the options were supplied by Tech. Support). Is it absolutely necessary to add these options to all webapps, or only the one for VA (SASServeer12_1)? Many thanks.

We're just planning for upgrading all our Windows Server 2012 boxes to 2016 or 2019 before they go out of support. This includes our four SAS machines, all on 2012 R2: metadata server, mid-tier server, compute server and VA server. Our SAS version is 9.4M7 (and VA 7.5). System requirements indicate that both newer versions of Windows are OK. But does anyone have any insights around issues which we might encounter? Thanks

You need the AND operator rather than OR with NotContains. You want records where the field doesn't contain "warden" AND doesn't contain "EMSC". One of those things where boolean logic doesn't match normal grammatic sense in English. Incidentally, I notice that in the case of "warden" you are upper-casing the field and then searching for the lower-case text, so that won't exclude any records.

Apologies, @japsas100, I don't know AIX. And I'm trawling the back of my memory here, as I haven't worked with a UNIX system for quite a while. But in the permissions set, as well as the RWX flags there's also the setuid/setgid ones, which can be applied to user or group permissions with "+s". Once it's applied it appears as an "s" instead of the "x". Doing some real memory dredging, I think with the setfacl command for Solaris, you can also have default entries in ACLs, and I think they set the ACLs for any directory contents which are created. So you might get an equivalent with AIX. But I'll have to defer to other more knowledgeable, and more recently experienced folk to confirm what I'm saying, or not. @Kurt_Bremser can you help here?

I'd be inclined to set the setuid bit (+s) for that person in the ACL for the parent directory. That way, their permissions will be applied to any files created in the directory.

Hi @SASKiwi , you are probably right, but the issue had never occurred to me before. We have quite a large (and increasing!) number of ODBC libraries, because there are a couple of databases which use different schemas to control access to different sets of data. The standard instructions for creating a new one (penned by myself, I have to admit) is to finish off by registering the tables, using SASMC because that's where everything else has been done. But in retrospect it's probably better to do that in EG or Studio. However, I think I'll advise that people set VALIDVARNAME=V7 when registering or updating table metadata. Makes it easier for people writing code when they maybe aren't aware of name literals. Thanks for your advice.

Hi @AnandVyas That's very odd then, because it should be the same as EG. Yet, when table metadata is updated in SASMC it's replacing spaces with underscores, which I would expect was because VALIDVARNAME was set to V7. When it's done in EG the spaces are retained, because VALIDVARNAME is set to ANY.

SAS 9.4M5 on Windows 2012R2 We created a library using ODBC to link to a SQL Server database, and registered table metadata using SASMC. Subsequently one of the users updated the metadata using PROC METALIB code in Enterprise Guide. This caused the name of one of the variables to change. Its database name has an embedded space and SASMC replaced that with an underscore. But the code in EG replaced the space. I'm guessing this is because of the VALIDVARNAME option, which in our workspace servers is set to ANY. I'm guessing that when SASMC runs the code it's set to V7. But I don't know where this option is set for SASMC. Beyond changing the option setting for workspace servers, is there anything we can do? I've told the user in question to set VALIDVARNAME=V7 in code before updating metadata (and set back to ANY afterwards), as an interim solution, but I don't know if there's anything better that can be done.
