Personally, I have been a huge fan of that idea. At my workplace, I'm the ONLY SAS user, so the ability for me to output my reports as a PDF has been priceless.

Hi, I tried the code below where the informat statement was used: *------------; data name; informat FirstName $8. LastName $15. date mmddyy8. n2 7.3; input firstname $ lastname $ date n2; datalines; a b 010101 100 ; *------------; All the variables are displayed correctly except date. It displayed as a strange numeric value 14976 instead of a date format. Can anyone give some hints on where is wrong? Thanks! gim

best experience with ODS -> HTML. EXCEL in all versions I know seems to get HTML very good. Even the usage of the extention .XLS instead of .HTML works very good, so it is not necessary to change the defaults for a double-click. All things, including formats, colors, fonts are nearly as in a web-browser. Try it out!

Hi, I think the basic missunderstanding is in the meaning of order, group and display. If you use display, you cannot use descending. However it is simple to have the data ordered anyway: just sort it before proc report comes... GROUP means a summary. Same like CLASS in PROC MEANS. Each distinct date is one group, so if you have only 4 different dates, that is ok. The other numeric data is summarized according to the selected statistic. ORDER sorts the data and prints only the first occurance of a new date. No statistics are calculated in the rows, only in BREAK-lines. By the way: if you use ORDER with formatted values, it is necessary to use also ORDER=DATA or ORDER=INTERNAL, otherwise you get it sorted by the formatted values. Hope that helps a bit.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me. I am working with SASIntrnet, and I am generating a dataset, and I want the user to be able to save it as an excel file. I am using the macro %ds2csv. It works great. But I want that particular excel file to have the associated footnote and title. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

Thanks David. I think the decision was made around 2 years ago - probably before the full impact of the above was properly realized (or understood?). But Thanks for the link - if ever Cognos can't produce the goods, I'm ready with an alternative....

I'm currently working in an environment where MI reporting has been done through Excel spreadsheets – DDE from SAS, and is being converted to Cognos because of the cube functionality. I’ve worked with EIS cubes back in 2001 and am sure that SAS has very good cube reporting features now. The only comment that I have heard about why they didn’t follow the SAS route is the expense. I’m assuming here that Base and ODS cannot compete with the cube reporting – is that true? Also would it be expensive going the SAS route as they say it is, and that Cognos is cheaper? From past experience there’s usually a lot of politics surrounding business decisions like this, so if it’s not actually the expense but some major Director’s express wish, then I won’t probe any further! Comments?

Thank you Elayne. It’s nice to know that I have allies in the battle! This is my sixth placement since the introduction of V8 and it’s my first where people work without the docked explorer. The most irritating feature is reports they produce where the important feature tends to be off the right side of my output window. I'm certainly not going to change - I can’t work without the docked explorer either. Think I may try to introduce the functionality of producing HTML output instead of standard SAS - then that will solve the problem - I think.
