SAS Institute Licensing

Hello Everyone,

I need your help to identify licensing of SAS Institute specifically on below scenario:

We have Meta Node, Compute Node and Web Server Node. Which of these nodes require licensing?

Perhaps, i would need help again with more questions based on the response, however this is the most important where i need the help currently.

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Thank You for your time and help,

Vaibhav

Re: SAS Institute Licensing

Hello,

The best thing you can do is to find out the Software Order or Software update emails. If you cannot find them, you can always run “proc setinit;run;” in the metadata and compute node, check the license(s) in your Metadata server, and find out by yourself.

However, some third party products, such as IBM Platform Manager (also known as LSF and Process Manager), might require an extra license file starting with LSF instead of SAS, in case you have it licensed and installed.

Best regards,
Juan

Re: SAS Institute Licensing

Typically all nodes require a licence to be applied. The instructions for doing this vary, depending on what SAS 9.4 maintenance level you are on. Also some SAS products have additional requirements. Recent SAS maintenance levels use the SAS Deployment Wizard to apply licences.

Re: SAS Institute Licensing

Hi @vaibhavdeepani

Simple rule I follow is, which ever server has SAS Foundation installed under SASHOME, it would require a license. Web/Web Apps are supporting services and doesn't require license.

Re: SAS Institute Licensing

The best approach is to contact your SAS Rep.
However as I understand it metadata and compute do require a license.
On your midtier (or web server node) if it has SAS installed then yes.

SAS installation vary , the best approach is to contact SAS itself and get an appropriate answer applicable to your case.
