Hi,

We have SAS Grid installed on the RHEL linux servers and like to setup some monitors on the linux server to ensure that all the required SAS Services/process on the Compute nodes, metadata servers and Mid-tier are up and running.  Could someone provide me the list of sas services/Process that we need to monitor on the linux server. Do we need to monitor any ports too?

Thanks

Starting on page 13 of the attached paper lists all the SAS Grid Manager services that need to be monitored. Please note that this paper talks about using Platform's EGO for High Availability for these SAS Grid Manager services.

Hello,

for the monitoring, you should have installed IBM RTM ( https://support.sas.com/rnd/scalability/grid/RTM.html ) or the SAS Environment Manager, or even both. Those can help you to monitor the Grid, and they should be configured already. If not, I would recommend you to do so.

Besides this. the services you have to monitor, you can go to each machine, and check all the services starting with "sas", "lim" , "res", "ego", etc. Please read https://support.sas.com/rnd/scalability/grid/PSS9.1_Unix_Install.pdf

You have also this little program to test your grid platform: https://support.sas.com/rnd/scalability/grid/gridtest.pdf

About the ports, I suggest you to go the SAS Management COnsole and retrieve the ports you need to monitor, or check a document named InstallReport that should have been delivered to you if the environment was installed by a SAS consultant.

Thanks Juan.

Only the first link for RTM is working. Could you re-send the correct links please.

SAS Environment Manager does this for you. Have you looked into using this tool?

Margaret,

Thanks. I do aware of the SAS EVM. Apart from using EVM, I want to use our monitoring tools too.

For ex:  On a Windows SAS Grid environment, we can create and configure alerts to monitor the various sas services by using monitoring tools (like Tivoli/scom) to check the status of the services in the service manager.

Is there any way I can do for the SAS Linux Grid environment?

something like Running servers as unix daemons? Not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Using third party tools like Tivoli and HP's Openview (it may have a new name) can be used to do this on UNIX/Linux systems.

Margaret,
Thanks.
what are the list of services (sas,lim...etc ? )that we need to monitor? Where can I get the complete list?
Inorder to monitor using third party tools, do we need to setup these process/servers as daemons in the init.d/systemd ?

Thanks

You can use Nagios or splunk Monitoring tools to monitor your SAS Services in linux environment.

grep the process to get key words on the process you wish to monitor.

Hi Anand,

Did you have experience using SPLUNK for monitering SAS Services.

Thanks,

@SuryaKiran

I have supported environments which used splunk to monitor services. I haven't configured it myself in splunk.
