Actually, that's a perfect situation. My timestamp requirements could be restated this way. Whenever a timestamp is earlier than the previous timestamp, that signals that the day should change. In fact, that's the only reliable signal that the day should change.

You could just use some arithmetic and the HMS() function. time=hms(int(number/100),mod(number,100),0); Or you could add some leading and trailing zeros to make it look like HHMMSS string and use the INPUT() function. time=input(put(100*number,z6.),B8601TM6.);

Well, my first bit of advice would be to fix the CSV import so that the data comes in using the correct format. This will save you further work down the line and would be the best method. To convert any text to a numeric you use the input function: new_variable = input(<text string>,<informat>); <text string> can be any valid text string or a character variable. <informat> can be any valid SAS provided or user defined informat.
