Q&A
Answered
How do I know when to use a segmentation tree versus another decision object?
In SAS Intelligent Decisioning, we have a multitude of objects that you can use to build your decision flow. So, I think this refers to selecting between those different types of objects. An example being business rules or you can write your own code, you can define treatments in order to manage the offers that you send out to your customer segments. And the best approach would be to identify what your team is comfortable with in terms of the amount of code you want to generate. As you might know, SAS Intelligent Decisioning offers both low-code and no-code options. So, defining those attributes or the interactions between the attributes and defining the segments can be done in multiple ways. You can write business rules with if-then-else statements. You can write code and then eventually you have the segmentation trees. So, if you are looking for a streamlined reusable option that is low-code and you want to use drag-and-drop, I would definitely recommend utilizing and going into integrating segmentation trees in your flows.
Is it possible to update value list values in the Segmentation Tree?
It’s referencing value list values and those are those values that we saw that are associated with our input variables for segmentation trees. So, say that you have created your variables for your segmentation tree, and you've used a value list, but maybe you want to edit that value list. That is absolutely possible to do, just like as you would for maybe some other objects. So, we could just go inside of our value lists and change the value. Maybe you want to change the arrangement, and you can do that by either changing the value list directly or creating a new version of that value list. That value list currently is versioned and we are working on releasing an option to create the value list ad hoc as well. The initial implementation with the versioned value list was such that you have more control of what goes into the segmentation tree. And this is especially important in those highly regulated and governed scenarios like in banking where you want to limit what a user can put within the segmentation tree. And there are some clearly defined boundaries. So that's where you have these versions and resource that you can reuse across your segmentation trees. And in the future, as I said, we'll have some ad hoc editable value list that you can put directly in the segmentation tree.
How can I manage segmentation trees if I have several in my environment?
So segmentation trees, just like other objects within Intelligent Decisioning, are versions and we also have repositories that you can utilize as for checkout commit operations. So in general, if you have a highly collaborative environment, you can store the segmentation trees in a repository that your team members can all contribute to and edit either on the same version or different versions. So yeah, you can do that with segmentation trees, just like with other objects in Intelligent Decisioning.
