Killing one by one is not necessary when you have root access and are abel to build a script to do that. ps -ef  and grep commands to select the ghost processes and the xargs kill to end those.  When needed a kill -9 for the repetition after a sleep  of ca 10 seconds.  Can be planned to run reguakr by cron.  That is the bypass. The permanent fix should come from finding the root-cause(s) most likely some co,bination of an user action some programming/code and those timers. The session-keep alive setting is recognized by SAS and implemented in 9.4. You need an upgrad for that. When users do not logoff, but disconnect on a rude way that is another one. Mentioing sas 9.2 as base your on that road.  As you are only having web-clients and a midtier  and mentioning ghostprocesses you are likely on a Unix system (just guessing).   Ghostprocesses can be cleaned up by killing those or restarting services. Normally there is NI need to restart the whole machine.  By ghostprocesses I am understanding run-away processes on the OS that where started on behalf on user (user personal key WS). When using shared accounts by ease of installation or as intended by isolated functionality (SP PWS OLAP) There is a difficulty to pinpoint those. Using a SP service is sharing that between users. There are a lot of possible causes. - The existance of some user ghostprocesses still running and connecting at intervals - The coding of the old/wrong password in a connection profile. (eguide amo/ .net    DI SMC /java) - the caching (eg conncet) in a SAS metadatadata autentication location - the usage hard coded of user/password combination. Finding and seeing these user errors can be hard. Than you can ahve problems in the SAS system itself. - The login can be delayed by failed logins. In those cases the metadata login can get delayed in a unusable way. When the user does a login and wille retry with different password thinking it are typos it can cause a lock. - After changing the password the sasauthentication can be delayed separtely  of your OS setttings. Getting a new password after an unlock can cause the marvelous sitaution you can loging at the OS level but using SAS for that will fail. After several retries it can get locked.      ... View more

After te renewal it was ok, after adding a new part to the license  PC-files it ( the license IQ)   failed. To be able to run some licensed part of SAS you must: 1- have it licensed present by registered it in the file sascore.sas7bcat  (the setinit)  2- all code must have been deployed.   When the IQ failed it was the signal step 2 was not correctly done.
