Hello @wardnine Your approach should be fine. Based on my experience about the exams, if you have been in SAS programming for 15+ years, you should be able to sail through without much difficulty. Do solve all the questions in the base programming guide and have a thorough understanding of the concepts. Do make some notes for last minute revision. Best wishes for your preparations and exams!

it works for us - all our projects are completely inside GIT, and the nice thing is that you can deploy to ANY sas environment, no dependency on an existing configuration / setup. About the restructure - yes indeed. Of course, ultimately you are just deploying SAS code so you CAN continue to use your existing autoexec / SASAUTOs / catalogs / filesystem / whatever, however - it's no longer necessary and we think it's better practice to keep everything in GIT.

Communities is run by SAS institute, whereas the slack channel is run by SAS users (like myself). It's also worth nothing that the slack channel is on 'free tier' so messages are automatically deleted after sometime, unlike communities where helpful answers are preserved and indexed. So for questions / answers, communities rocks! For random chit chat, slack is one option. There is also a chat feature on https://sasensei.com (not as good as slack though).

Our product (Data Controller for SAS) provides audit tracing for the upload of sensitive data such as spreadsheet models and other business-sourced data. This video gives a good overview. Data Controller is supported on both SAS Viya and regular Enterprise SAS 9 (EBI) and is free for 5 users.

The Data Lineage feature in Data Controller uses proc metatada to get a full mapping of all source / target tables for each job, as described here. It's free for 5 users, just get in touch via the website if you'd like to give it a whirl. It also provides lineage diagrams that link through to the job metadata (using an in-built metabrowse feature).

It's very easy to connect SAS to Javascript and produce incredibly interactive, beautiful graphs & charts. You can do this from Desktop SAS, SAS 9 Stored Processes, or Viya. We use the SASjs framework extensively for this type of thing in our SAS Apps team.

We have built a tool that does exactly this, and it's free for up to 5 users. You can only modify _existing_ tables, and - unlike the open source hot editor - it will NOT replace the target table, but perform updates / appends according to the load type (eg SCD2, UPDATE, BITEMPORAL). This way the data MODEL is protected, and the data VALUES can be safely modified. There is a seperation between the edit and the approval, there are data quality validations, and you can even drag & drop excel files into the browser. We'll be adding this functionality to the SASjs VS Code extension soon. We have Viya support already, SAS 9 (metadata) should be a week or so, and Desktop SAS will be in 3-4 weeks.

Hi SASKiwi - glad you like it! The VS Code extension would not be compatible as VS Pro uses an entirely different SDK. If there are any readers (with developers, or budget) who would like us to support the VS Pro marketplace, we'd be happy to chat! That said, you don't need the extension to use the SASjs framework. All the functionality (minus the syntax highlighting obviously) is also available in the CLI. You can run `sasjs lint` to fix the code, and `sasjs run` to execute it. Very (very) soon the SAS execution feature will work for SAS 9, and in a few weeks, for Desktop SAS also.
