Hi JW, in the Query Builder, you can create a Computed Column using an Advanced Expression and then specify the expression: 4-cmiss(of Col1 - Col4) that is assuming your columns are named Col1, Col2, Col3 and Col4. If they are named something else such as A, B , C, D, E then you would use: 5-cmiss(A, B , C, D, E) the cmiss function counts the number of missing numeric or character columns and so you want to subtract that from the number of variables you have. An alternative could be to use the %index macro function as in the SAS documentation, http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/mcrolref/61885/HTML/default/viewer.htm#a000543562.htm But this method would require you to write a macro do loop to pass each value to test it.

To use the in operator in the macro facility you need to be using SAS 9.2 or SAS 9.3 and have 2 macro options set, minoperator and mindelimiter. This is documented in the usage note, http://support.sas.com/kb/35/591.html - Click on the Full Code tab. cheers, Michelle

I recently wrote a blog post relating to the put and input function that you may find useful - Rhymes, mnemonics and tips in learning SAS - The SAS Training Post As your original variable is numeric you use the put function to convert it to a character type and then use the input function using the YYMMDD8. (as that is the way your data looks) to create the numeric SAS date. The format statement simply displays the SAS date number in the format you want, YYMMDD10.

Hi, The error message you are getting is correct is you are using SAS Version 8 to try to import an .xlsx file. SAS Access to PC File Formats (the underlying product you are using for PROC IMPORT) started supporting reading in .xlsx files (from Excel 2007 onwards) from SAS 9.2. If you save your .xslx file to an .xls file it may work (can't remember whether the syntax is the same for SAS Version 😎 or alternatively upgrade your SAS version to the latest release SAS 9.3. And if you are using SAS 9.3 you can use the open-ended macro range technique as described in Chris Hemedinger's blog post... Improving on a SAS programming pattern - The SAS Dummy Using this technique eliminates the need for the first SQL query to get the number of observations into a macro variable as you don't need to in SAS 9.3 and the macro variable values are trimmed as well. Hi, My reference to modifying the random statement appropriately was because I thought you were running proc mixed. Sorry... Great to hear that the article helped with your new "doctor" variable. As a thought perhaps sort by SubjectID time and then remove SubjectID from the class statement and see how that goes. Another suggestion is to specify a alternate method for computing the denominator degrees of freedom for the tests of fixed effects resulting from the model. As you using a AR(1) covariance matrix structure, then perhaps the Kenward Rogers method with a firstorder suboption will help so that second derivatives from the calculation of the covariance matrix adjustment are not calculated which may help with the computation... so your model statement becomes: model QuitSmoke(event='1') = agegroup gender time user time*user /dist=binary link=logit solution covb ddfm=kr(firstorder); As documented at https://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/statug/63347/HTML/default/viewer.htm#statug_glimmix_a0000001415.htm (and click on DDFM). Hi, What is your data set sorted by? If subjectID is a numeric column you may want to sort it by subjectID and then remove it from your class statement and modify your random statement appropriately. Hi, Generally you would only use a period at the end of a macro variable to delimit the macro variable from text. It relates to tokenization - http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/mcrolref/62978/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p0gdmopu3arzvln1kkv707v2fc42.htm So if you had the statement %let dsn=Y&year&month; due to tokenization SAS knows the the year macro variable ends due to the & special token. If however you had %let dsn=Y&yearmonth; then are you referring to the macro variable, year or the macro variable, yearmonth? In this case a period is needed to delimit the word year from the text month. %let dsn=Y&year.month would then produce Y2012month if the macro variable year has the value 2012. If you use multiple ampersands next to multiple macro variables with periods unnecessarily you may end up with unexpected results.
