My thanks to both of you. Sorry about the tardiness of response. In the immediate future, I guess I'm going to try Dan's suggestion, if for no other reason than it helps me gain some insight into how all this this stuff (html, xml, etc.) goes together. Which, I suspect, will be useful when it comes to modifying the tagset, which seems to be the long-term solution. Haven't had the opportunity to read your paper, yet, Cynthia, but looks like that'll be on my short list - maybe something to take home for some holiday reading - now if I only had some rolling waves and sandy beaches nearby ... I have more, but let me formulate my questions first.

I used to do SAS programming many years ago and I just need to find a website to tell me about some of the proc formats and examples like: Proc Merge, print .. and .....format, informat, reading input and the most commonly used features. (just the simple basic) I do not find SAS website to give me what I am looking for, and I thought there is a place on the net that I can find a reference to read it from. Please help ..It so crutial!!!!

Another option is the datepart function which will return a date sequence. data _null_; datetime_var = '07jun2006:01:05:06'dt; date_var = datepart(datetime_var); format datetime_var datetime20. date_var date9.; put _all_; run;

Hi, i'm trying to calculate the difference between two observations from the same variable on two differents rows. Per example, id var 1 4 1 2 Basically, making 4-2. Thanks, JS

Jean-Sebastien, You can apply one of the date formats in you data or sort step: data _null_; d='02jun2006:00:01:00'dt; put d= datetime. / d= datetime9. / d= dtdate9.; run;

Hi, i making web log analysis and i want to sort page views per date. As we know, the date in weblog files has this format: 02JUN2006:00:00:00. I tried to create a new variable with only the day or date (eg. 02jun or 02jun2006) by truncating or new format, but it didnt work!! thanks for your help Jean-Sebastien

First question: I have some titles that I would like to get put into separate cells sort of like a form, say. |Name:| |______| |Date:| |______| |Something Else:| |______| I'm sure you get the idea. I've tried various things like , '09'x, etc. with no luck. I at least set the options nocenter and that me somewhare, sort of. Is there a way to split titles? Second question. I am writing out spreadsheets by month. Right now, I've extracting a month at a time and setting the sheetname to 'Jan', say. Is there a way to use a BY statement, Format the date to MONYY5., say and use the formatted name for the sheetname. Merci, in advance.

Lastly... Is there a way to preserve leading blanks in a text string? Sort of faking an 'indent'. I.E. (good) 'abcdefg' ' abcdefg' (bad) 'abcdefg' 'abcdefg'

We need to automate some of our canned reports monthly and would like to email them as soon as they are available. Using the filename email option gives an "Undetermined I/O Error". Proc Options gives me a CONFIG path that I can't get to, hence I can't change the EMAILHOST or EMAILSYS options. This is pretty straightforward in batch unix, linux or mainframe. 1) How should I go about this on windows? 2) Can I set/use a custom CONFIG?

Thanks Cynthia. The proc format-driven highlighting is definitely a powerful feature. However I'm not sure it'd do exactly what it is I'm trying to accomplish. Say I've got a table with 5 variables. Depending upon the value in var1, I want to make all data in that row (as opposed to column), bold. So with HTML, it was easy to just do it in a data step by throwing those HTML tags in around the var1-5. I'm not sure I see how to do this with traffic lighting though. I guess there's no equivalent XML tag to bold data?
