We have often fit models with both random and repeated effects.  A good book that covers this in a lot of detail (aside from LIttell et al.'s SAS for Mixed Models) is Stroup's Generalized Linear Mixed Models.  It has extensive SAS examples, mostly using GLIMMIX, that may be of great interest.

(And no, I don't get a kickback on recommending this book, which I seem to be doing in roughly every other post. Smiley Happy)
