Hi All,

Does anyone here perform a migration of SAS VA from 7.1 to 8.1? I would like to ask what are the experienced impact or issues when doing the migration?

Hello @Albert0,

as far as I know, the general procedure is to upgrade VA 7.1 to 7.4, so you will get all the capabilities to connect to CAS (8.X) libraries.

Then, you can start moving data, and then promoting the content/reports.

Please read:

An Introduction to SAS® Visual Analytics 8.1 (page 11) http://support.sas.com/resources/papers/proceedings17/SAS0758-2017.pdf

and

SAS® Viya™ 3.2 Administration Promotion (Import and Export) - Migrate Content from SAS 9.4 to SAS Viya http://documentation.sas.com/?cdcId=calcdc&cdcVersion=3.2&docsetId=calpromotion&docsetTarget=n0ihk3d...

Please consider the look&feel of the reports might look the same, or similar, but not all the objects can be migrated at this point of time, same for stored processes, since there are no stored process yet in SAS Viya.

I have not tried any promotion yet, but I am scheduled to deliver a migration by december, hence, I did some homework 🙂

Thank you JuanS_OCS, I'll be reading thru the documents you have provided. We will also be migrating to this version next year. I'm also doing a research to avoid any problem during the migration.

Hello @Albert0,

my pleasure 🙂

If I were you (and I "will" )  and for the good shake of your users, I would consider for starter there will be expected problems - the word expected is important, since they are known by SAS, VIya is on development - and I would communicate them.

Also, you can always contact SAS Technical Support or your SAS Account Manager. If you let them know the version of the source VA and the destination VA, they can  pin point you to whom can provide you good insights on what you may expect.

Also, always good to consider the latest version of the the original VA (latest is VA 7.5) and the latest version on Viya (VA 8.2 will scheduled to come out this December): the less differences, the less trouble you will face.
