Hello,

I was looking for the Limit number of rows that the different objects can show in this link https://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/vaug/69957/HTML/default/viewer.htm#n0r2de9vkep76bn1tjb5...

But I didn't understand the following sentence :

  • If a data source contains more than a million records, queries are blocked for data items whose cardinality is greater than 10,000 unique items in any particular category.
Can someone please explain ?
Thank you so much

Hello,

I don't think that the note applies to releases after 7.4. If you have VA 7.4 (or earlier??), it might actually be difficult to find someone who can remember what this was supposed to mean.

It is likely that I wrote the note many years ago, based on something a developer told me. But we don't retain emails or other records that old anymore.

My best guess from looking at the note is that VA 7.4 would show an error in an object if: 1) the source table has more than 1 million rows and 2) a category in the object has more than 10,000 distinct values after filters/ranks are applied (cardinality). So for example, a list table would have an effective cardinality limit of 10,000 instead of 40,000 when the data source has more than 1 million rows.

I can look into this further if you have VA 7.4 or earlier and you need to know for sure, but I can't guarantee that I can get a conclusive answer.

Your link is to very old documentation. This is the same topic in Visual Analytics 7.5 and I don't see that reference to a million records included.

To see that same topic for other releases on SAS Viya, select your release from the drop-down list in the upper left.
