Hi all,

Has anyone encountered any issues with Internet Explorer?

One of our users reported problems with a report that works fine when our team tested (we all use Chrome).

After some investigation we discovered that performance in IE was/is terrible (Edge not much better), report pages (and info windows) were loading so slowly it appeared to have frozen.

We have directed the user towards Chrome but there will be others. (its suddenly becoming apparent why some users were less enthusiastic about some of the reports than we expected - We now suspect they were all using IE and getting a poor user experience)

We are running 7.4 and have all the latest hot-fixes etc.

Internet Explorer has a memory leak that causes performance issues, especially with the modern (HTML5) version of Visual Analytics. See this SAS note:

Edge was not supported with release 7.4.

Internet Explorer is, and has been for a very long time, the worst, and yet still the most used browser around.  Even MS dropped it in favour of a new one called Edge, which I haven't used, but going by all the other MS products I wouldn't expect to be any good.  Unless there is a specific compatibility issue, use anything other than IE.

Thanks guys,

Those links are useful.

Its a bit of a problem as IE seems to be the default browser for most of our users (3000+ potentially) and many lack the technical understanding to switch easily (they just click the links we provide).

Will have to think how we can mitigate!

Are you using the Classic or Modern Viewer? If you are using Modern is switching to Classic a possibility?

We use the Classic Viewer with IE 11 and it performs pretty well.

We are using modern viewer, classic viewer caused even more issues with flash versions etc although it may be good if SAS enabled some kind of automatic switch if IE is detected.

I assume there is some irony in the "modern viewer" naming.

Hi there,

we had a serious performance issue with ie and it was related to the virus scanning.

we had to trust the sas server in the virus scanner to get a normal IE performance.

Chrome did not have this issue.

We now have a good performance on both 7.4 as 8.2

Maybe this helps in Some occasions.

greetings

Thank you, will try that,

hopefully will help as the notes about the memory leak issue seem to imply its related to heavy usage, our users are having major issues with a single simple report (<3k records)
