Dear SAS Experts,

I have recently joined this community and interested in learning SAS. There are lots of SAS softwares are available and I believe not each and every application is suitable for everyone. Where to start from and how many components to focus on?

I have 10 years of Datawarehousing and ETL experience. Could anyone please guide me to select specific SAS software(s)?

Thanks & Regards

Bhasker

Hi!

Which SAS components/modules you need depends on your requirements, so you need to look at those first.

The courses supplied for SAS UE are the best starting point, and then you have to specialize into what you need.

Hi KurtBremser,

Currently i do not have any official requirements on SAS. I opted SAS in order to learn as new skill and a add-on to my existing DW/ETL experience. I beleive this shall open door of international job opportunities as well.

Thanks and Regards

Bhasker.

Start with SAS UE and the course program available online.

"Learning SAS" would be like handing you the Encyclopedia Britannica and saying "read that". One can't "learn SAS", not even SAS employees have complete knowledge of their product. Everybody specializes.

Thank you for your valuable guidance. I will start with SAS UE.

UE will give you opportunity to use programing tools.

But the SAS ETL product is called Data Integration Studio (part of the Data Management and other solution offering). It's a code generator based on a GUI, and all ETL definitions are stored as metadata in the Metdata Server. An interfacing application is SAS Management Console, that apart from server and metadata management, let you build job flows (based on DI Studio ETL metadata) and scheduling.

Unfortunately, there is no education/trial version available for DI Studio - so you basically need to learn on the job, or take some training.

Moved to training forum, more suitable for the inquiry.

Thank you LinusH. DI was in my 'to do' list.
