Spline option grayed out in effect statement?

My code is as above. The spline option doesn't turn blue as it's supposed to

As long as the code runs don't spend any time worrying about editor highlighting.

If you run code and get an error there, then you may have to look to your version of SAS vs the documentation to determine if the option is actually available in your particular install.
