Dear all,

I have a huge dataset (over 1,000,000 records) with TWO  date variables, date1 (Date9.) format, date2 (YYMMDDN8.) format.. I want to see the lowest and highest values of the date variable to verify this dataset contains all the years I needed.

for example, I expect the earliest year is 1976, and latest is 2011.

I tried:

proc means var date1 date2;

but it shows numeric values, I can't tell which year it is.

Is there an easier way?

proc summary  ;

  var date1 date2 ;

  output out=stats;

run;

proc print data=stats;

where _stat_ in ('MIN','MAX');

format date1 date2 year.;

run;
