recovering from error conditions in batch mode

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to execute a data step at the end of a batch program only when an error popped up which triggered an obs=0 and syntax checking condition.  I thought there was an option for that but didn't find one.  This happens to be in 9.1.3 on a Solaris box, but am looking for a more generic guide.

A SAS batch job should return a return code greater than or equal to 2 if it goes into syntax check mode. You could trap this value and then kick off a second SAS program containing the code you want.

How are you running your SAS programs? A Unix script file would seem to be one option. This reference might be helpful:
