I'm trying to match a character variable pattern. It is of the form "000-ABCD" (three digits, dash, four capital alpha characters).

I used the following code, but it must be incorrect as it did not return anything:

data blah;
set blah;
if prxmatch('/\d{3}-\[A-Z]{4}/', refid);
run;

data blah;
input refid $40.;
cards;
000-ABCD
0A0-ABCD
;
data want;
set blah;
if prxmatch('/\d{3}-[A-Z]{4}/', refid);
run;
