proc transpose data=exercise_mean out=t_exercise_mean;

I generated a data set through above code. But I would like to rename 2nd and 3rd variable to, say apple, pear respectively.
proc transpose
data=exercise_mean
out=t_exercise_mean (rename=(_name_=apple col1=pear))
;
This works, if I recall correctly.
name=apple out=t_exercise_mean(rename=col1=pear)
proc transpose
data=exercise_mean
out=t_exercise_mean (rename=(_name_=apple col1=pear))
;
