Anytime that SAS Studio behaves oddly, such as trying to save a program file as a '.log' file, close Studio and re-open it. Although I have seen people trying to save files from the "Log" window rather than the "Program" Window (in which case you would expect a .log file), I have seen examples where Studio adds the '.log' extension to a program file.
