A number of SAS learners asked me if using ARRAYS in SAS® for large data sets works better than using PROC TRANSPOSE. Someone asked how he can get 100-character variables, with different variable names, stored as one variable. ARRAYS are stored in memory in SAS which may speed up the runs. My blog shows my answer.
Also has some topic of LIBNAME for XLSX if you have SAS 9.4M2 and larger maintenance(M).
