The banking track has been a part of the hackathon since its very early days.

 

Over the last few years, teams from banks, data science companies and even large consultancies have competed in this track. In 2023, there were eight teams. In 2024, this rose to 12. Over the years, teams in the banking track have aimed to solve very different but equally challenging problems.

  • Raffles Vietnam (Industry Winner, Banking) built a model to extract business rules, identify conflicts between them, and then use a decision engine to automate and accelerate business decisions such as approval processes. For more information, contact the team’s SAS mentor, Xin Ru Lee.
  • Banamex Risk360 built a model to predict customers’ next purchase in banking, and therefore improve product recommendations.   • BiBanreservas built a model to identify factors associated with financial exclusion in the Dominican Republic, to help banks to better understand under-served customers.   • Critical Thinking Crew created a fun way for potential investors to compare two companies using financial and non-financial data, setting them up as a fight between two robots.   • ISX4Good enhanced an existing SAS fraud detection product to include analysis of unstructured documents, and improve the detection of procurement fraud.   • Nexa Analytics Workers improved the management of a customer WhatsApp channel, to reduce the time taken to resolve customer queries raised through this channel.   • Santander (Industry Winner, Banking) created an online carbon footprint tracker to assess the transactions in your bank account. You can find the team profile here, and also download a one-page summary of their work.
