What to do in Dallas?

Coming from the Boston area, I was planning on shopping for some good cowboy boots.  I've been told that Cavender's Boot City is the place to go.  There's one about 4 miles away from the convention.

I'd be interested in Country & Western clothing. Right now, the nearest store I have found is Wild Bill's Western Store on Ross Avenue.

I'm interested in any alternatives.

In a similar vein, my wife and I will do a trip from Dallas to Miami via Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando in the one-and-a-half weeks following the conference. Any suggestions are greatly welcome 🙂

My husband and I went to the Sixth Floor Museum last spring. It was truly awe-inspiring. Beautifully presented. The other attendees (including loads of school children) were somber and respectful--because the place is just that intense. I definitely recommend if you love history (or lived through this bit.) My husband and I will both be at SGF this year, and we may go again.

I also suggest that you get tickets in advance. They are timed and you have your own entrance line. We had tickets for the opening time and walked straight in, although we were behind one group of teens. The line matriculated quickly for us. The folks waiting in the general admission line had a long wait.

I think we may have purchased our tickets with a AAA discount.

Another wonderful place to visit is the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. I went there last time SGF was in Dallas and really hope to make it there again. It is open daily 9-5 and should be particularly beautiful at this time of year. https://www.dallasarboretum.org/

Lived in Dallas a long time. I would take in the Galleria and eat lunch at Mi Cocina. Food and atmosphere.

Dallas is more of an indoor city (summer is sizzling) and it is enormous. Hence, lots of places to recommend but distances are large. In general, I would stay focused and not try too many things in 1 day. Dallas has some of the best restaurants you can imagine. It is my #1 restaurant city.

Another place, somewhat near downtown, is Javiers. Atmosphere is incredible and the food is good to very good. Plus cigars in back. Any restaurant run by Stephen Pyles is also worth a visit.
