Is it possible to Connect from SAS EG to Foundation on Remote windows server without SAS Connect

Hello Friends

Is it possible to connect from SAS Enterprise Guide on local machine to Foundation on Remote Windows server.

There is no PC SAS and SAS Connect on local machine, just only SAS Enterprise Guide is installed and license is there for SAS Integration Technologies.

Is there a way to connect to Remote windows server

I would appreciate for your help on this

The short answer is yes. EG contains the functionality to connect to a remote SAS server.

The long answer is: the remote SAS Server architecture MUST consist of at least a SAS metadata server as well as a SAS application server and the SAS metadata environment must be implemented and functioning. EG requires SAS metadata identities to connect to the remote SAS application server - there is no way to avoid this requirement.

I know that it can connect to SAS Metadata server in BI server environment, all my past experience is in SAS BI server environment.

but the current environment does not have BI server environment, It  has just sas foundation without any BI server components.

Users would like to connect from SAS EG to Foundation on remote windows server, there is no base sas on their local machines except SAS EG...so can they able to connect with this current environment....or only the other option would be either buying license for base sas for each individual pc or getting sas bi server license.

My understanding is no. Without a BI Server environment EG will not work - it requires a metadata server to connect to.

I am not an expert, but I don't think you need an metadata server. Just an application server.

@Tom  - I believe your statement is true up until SAS Version 9.1.3, where you could run EG off an EG "Registry". With later versions, unless I'm very much mistaken, metadata-enabled remote SAS servers are required.

EG provides two methods of operation: Local or with a metadata profile. The second option needs an active metadata server to connect to.
