How do i call .sh file from EG

Hi,

there are few jobs which are schduled and can be manully run at the commond prompt.

but now my business wants to run those jobs themselves and they are not very familar with command line prompts, so now they are asking to have some GUI with buttons so as they click on the button and in the background job is executed. 🙂

so my question here is can i build a java applet which can call these .sh files or can i build a small program in EG which can call these .sh files?

There are some alternatives, but Java applet is not one I came to think of (not saying it can't be done).

I assume that you have a SAS server license since you are mentioning sh-files.

On way is to create SAS Stored Process of them, and have them called via an URL (even from the SAS IDP if you got that).

Another option is to have a SAS program executed in EG which could use %include to call the other jobs.

There are a lot better ways to run SAS batch jobs than to do an operating system command via EG. Why not consider using SAS Management Console? It has a friendly user interface for both scheduling and manually running SAS batch jobs.

i am running using the mangement console, but don't want to provide Business user access to MC, thats why i was asking this question

From the EG perspective, I would write an EG custom task, using @ChrisHemedinger 's book and reference material. Not sure about the inter-machine communications needed to run a shell file, but I'm fairly sure it's doable.

I suspect if your specialty is Java, it would be much easier for you to write an outboard Java program to do the same; but you lose the integration with EG.

Recent versions of SAS Studio allow you to submit SAS batch jobs as well.

If you've got SAS EBI (the "portal stuff") then you could implement a stored process which allows end users to trigger jobs manually via a Web interface.
