Does anyone have Data Stewards utilising the Data Management Console front end?
With Flash being decommissioned in 2020, what are people's plans in regards to the front end?
There don't appear to be many options moving forward with SAS seemingly not interested in providing an alternative (aka a redeveloped front end which doesn't use Flash) to what appears to be a small customer group. The only options moving forward past Flash' EoL appear to be;
1 - Stop using SAS for Data Management
2 - Continue to use SAS back end technology but lose the business users ability to manage data through the front end (which in my mind is losing one of the key functions of MDM as you are falling back to just having an automated process to manage your data)
3 - Develop a custom front end in-house and manage this in addition to maintenance. This assumes you have the capability, time, resources to do this.
4 - Create a virtual machine which isn't updated and put it in a DMZ with very little capability other than accessing SAS Data Management Console. This would allow business users to continue managing data in a very controlled small environment.
I'd like to hear from anyone whom is using the software, have data stewards using it, have heard this for the first time, have any plans or ideas on how to move forward.
This kind qustions regarding software deelopment strategy, you must be able to get SAS POV.
Try to get this via your sales representative.
Not knowing anything about the plans of the curent platform, I think in the long run SAS will point all users towards Viya, which will have a major data management release later this year.
It was SAS that brought this to my attention late last year as they know we actively use SAS MDM and Data Management Console.
As far as i am aware they plan to migrate the MDM functionality to Viya but as yet do not have timelines available and the current functionality is only a mere fraction of what is available through 9.4 (I am strictly talking about MDM and the front end functionality). This is what i was eluding to when i mentioned the customer base as other SAS products have many more customers/users and therefore have priority for being migrated to Viya first.
Hi
Thanks for your question which gives the opportunity to introduce our strategy towards the retirement of Adobe Flash and its impact on SAS Data Management products. As you mentioned Adobe will end support for Adobe Flash end of December 2020. Like many software vendors, SAS has a plan for mitigating dependencies on Adobe Flash in advance of Adobe Systems’ agenda. For Data Management SAS R&D and SAS Product Management are actively working on the migration of the following components from Flash to HTML5:
Expected release data for most of these products is Q3 2019 on SAS 9.4M6. Don’t hesitate to contact your SAS account representative for the full details and timelines regarding SAS' Flash plans.

Vincent
Thanks for the information Vincent, but my question is directly and solely related to SAS MDM and Data Management Console, the front end for SAS MDM, which i note were omitted from your list of software that has been planned. Are you able to shed any light on any anticipated R & D in relation to SAS MDM and Data Management Console specifically?
Hi
By SAS Data Management console, do you mean Data Remediation, MDM or Visual Process Orchestration? The former will be available in HTML5, but the later will be only supported through fat client. In addition, we are working on a set of VA reports that will be proposed as a Home page for SAS DM products.
Again, we are having many conversation with SAS DM Customers about FLASH eol, I will recommend to contact your SAS sales account team, for getting more details and info about impacts.
