Depending on the full context of your code & if you're on a unix based system, you could use the 'permission' option within the filename statement

Can this be used on an existing file without making any other modifications?

Will the permissions be changed if this is submitted:

filename xxx '/path/file' permission=".....";
filename xxx clear;

?

There is an option to do this too using this CAS action if you're a Viya user.
