This is driving me nuts.  Win 10 Pro machine. 32 GB RAM. Lots of drive space. Installation seems to proceed normally. When prompted for 64-bit native for Enterprise Guide, or 32-bit compatability mode (which is recommended, for some reason), I select 64-bit.

Things chug along, until I select the 64-bit SAS installation file (workstation).  As soon as I do, the installer complains with the following - what the heck?

Installation halts that point. For some silly reason, the installer seems to think I want/need 32-bit mode, even though I selected 64-bit mode.

So, what do I do now?

What's the bitness of Win 10?

Bitness is 64.

Looks like you may have installed 32-bit Foundation SAS and only 32-bit EG will work with that. To confirm follow these instructions: https://support.sas.com/kb/32/374.html

Well, I don't actually have SAS installed on this machine at present (if I did, why would I be trying to install 9.4 now?), but I did some time ago (2 years?).  I'll ave to dig through the registry and blow away any references to SAS that I can find.

PITA - why in the modern age would any application force you to play games with 32-bit and 64-bit options? All my other technical software (Maple, Mathematica, MATLAB,  and yes, R) dropped 32-bit years ago.

If you hunt through the SAS Software Depot you are installing off you might find a folder like this:

<depot folder>\standalone_installs\SAS_Enterprise_Guide_Independent_Installer\8_31

And inside that folder a file named similar to this:  SASEnterpriseGuide831_x86_x64.exe

This is a standalone installation (start by double-clicking on the file) of 64-bit EG which may help to circumvent your problem. Otherwise opening a Tech Support track might be the way to go.

That seems to have helped - thanks! But, once done, how do I then go about installing things like SAS/STAT, SAS/OR, etc?

You seem to be confused about what Enterprise Guide is.  Enterprise Guide is a WINDOWS application written by SAS Institute that will allow you to edit and submit programs to actual SAS.

SAS itself is a separate product.  You can use Enterprise Guide to submit SAS code to a version of SAS that is running on your WINDOWS PC (typically called PC-SAS to make it clear it is running on your PC) or to a version of SAS that is running on some multi-user server.  The server could be running Windows Server, or IBM mainframe Z/OS , but most sites are probably going to using a Linux server these days.

SAS/STAT and SAS/OR are additionally licensed sets of procedures that install into SAS.  They have nothing to do with Enterprise Guide.

OK - all I want to be able to do is work with SAS/STAT, SAS/OR, and SAS/ETS. Period. Nothing else. I have zero need/interest in anything related to what it looks like Enterprise Guide does.

Feel free to watch the following an tell me what I'm doing wrong, or what is 'missing' from the depot.

So why not just skip Enterprise Guide when doing the installation process?

Ask your local SAS support (or your SAS company rep) to give you an installation depot for just installing SAS.
