Hi,

I am new to the SAS Admin world and I would like to know if there is a limit on the length of the password users can set for their connection profile to the SASApp server. Any help is welcome.

This paper is a bit outdated, but OK for your purpose.

Anyway, for Workspace server sessions, the password depends on the limits in your Operating System limits. Please check the limits for your OS brand and version. Google can help.

@eirigoyen,

I need some clarifications, are you talking about metadata, local or Active Directory users? What OS?

Hi,

Some background info, SAS has been installed in our company for many years and we recently upgraded to M5 a few months ago, all is working as expected. Our security group is undertaking a project to make all users passwords more complex to increase security. I was wondering if SAS had a limit on the length for passwords that can be set. When users create a connection from EG, Forecast server, EM, etc. they utilize their corporate userid and password. So I think that would be metadata and we have active directory users, we have SAS 9.4M5 installed on Linux machines.

For most (all the non-internal) users, the check of the credentials will be done against an external source (the OS, PAM, LDAP), so the limits of that external source will come into play.
