Hi Nandan,

some additional info:

Customer Loyalty offers Ask the Expert sessions. The next one coming up is this week Wed.

There will be a posting on the community later today.

Take a look at http://www.sas.com/en_us/webinars/introduction-sas-admin-tasks-94/register.html

You can either do the live event, or, watch it on demand.

Additional Ask the Expert sessions: http://support.sas.com/training/askexpert.html

Look in the Administration section.

Another resource is a LinkedIn article I wrote. It is a lot of information in there.

This article provides information based on topics an admin should be aware of.

It is based on a structure going from Install/Migration through the phases of administration, from novice

to advanced.

Hello @nandanosho,

as @anja and @ShelleySessoms, I would definetely try to get some guidance. Self-learning is always a path, but you probably would like to provide the best service to your users, therefore I would avoind self-learning, at least for the first steps, and I would go for some training sessions. On the long run, they have proved to be much less expensive.

So I would say that for those paths, you are covered with their advise. All of it you can find quite well explained at: https://support.sas.com/training/us/paths/admin.html

Also, I personally think that there is nothing like the official documentation. All the documentation can be found at:

https://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/va/

In your case, I would start with the:

Administration Guide: http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/va/7.3/en/vaag.pdf

Hello all, I am on the same boat as @nandanosho. I have the privilege of taking advantage of class-room courses but I need to be sure I start the process in correct manner.  Does anyone here took any of the class-room courses, where and your overall experience and if you recommend it?

Thanks again

Hello @L2Fly,

from the following page https://support.sas.com/training/us/paths/admin.html what is your question or questions regarding the order?

The class-room courses, are a great idea and I strongly recommend them if you have little or no experience at all with the administration of SAS platforms. In some cases, even if you have extended experience it can be very healthy to take them.

Besides this, I would also recommend you to take some clases about operating systems administration (Linux, Windows). This is optional, just very advisable to get a minimum level of understanding and practice of the OS resources.

Thank you @JuanS_OCS for your reply and info.  I am assuming since we have installed the OA, VA, MT and MD components I should start with VA and OA "Administrating a Non-distributed Deployment on Windows" and perhas latter take the Platform Admin Fast Track class!

I just want to make sure to start on a class that it can be useful to manage security, groups...  I have also need to start looking at bringing data from our data-warehouse (SQL) to SAS LASR tables...

The problem is that I can't find any class-room courses for VA and OA, mostly are web based.  In past, we had many bad experienced taking web based courses!

Again, thanks for any info that I can get.

Hello @L2Fly,

Indeed, that path seems to be a good start.

If you cannot find any training course in your country, I would strongly recommend you to look for courses in different countries.

While I have no problem with most of Web-based courses, I understand that some courses and some people prefer and works better with a face to face interaction.

My best suggestion for you is to contact the SAS representative for your company. SAS often delivers courses on-site or in personalized locations, because SAS understands that face 2 face is still very important. In those cases, the costs are also personalized.
