Thank you. The code you provided worked on only the second observation, however I have about 1900 rows/observations that I want to extract the last author's name from. Is there a way to make this code work on all observations?

Hi, I have a character variable named "Title and Authors" that contains a long text and I want to extract a certain text which is last Author name that lies between comma and period as shown in RED the example below: Title and Authors 1- Minervina AA, Pogorelyy MV, Kirk AM, Crawford JC, Allen EK, Chou CH, Mettelman RC, Allison KJ, Lin CY, Brice DC, Zhu X, Vegesana K, Wu G, Trivedi S, Kottapalli P, Darnell D, McNeely S, Olsen SR, Schultz-Cherry S, McGargill MA, Wolf J, Thomas PG. Thanks. The word is alway delimited by - before and after but it may be Sam/SAM/sam. Also, there won’t be a case when Sam is a part of another word like Samk as you asked!

Hi, The ID column I have in the data is a character as shown below: ID Ram-2020 Ram-2024 Ram-20 Ram-Sam-3032 Ram-Bak-504 My question is, I want to create a new variable named ID2 for example and that new variable contain only values when the word “Sam” is present. So the new data set would be: ID ID2 Ram-2020 Ram-2024 Ram-20 Ram-Sam-3032 Ram-Sam-3032 Ram-Bak-504 Thanks

Thank you so much for replying. I tried your code and it worked as a report. The code creates what I wanted in a different way (which I personally like) but for data management purposes, I want the data "Need" itself to be transposed exactly as I described in my post. I have tried different codes but I end up getting 3 transposed columns each in one row, which is not really what I want to have as an outcome. Thank you

Hello, I have a dataset that looks like this (sorted by ID and startdate): ID Startdate Stopdate Result 1 02/03/2011 02/05/2011 1 1 03/22/2016 . 3 1 05/13/2016 05/13/2016 4 2 11/11/2011 11/13/2011 2 2 03/23/2012 03/23/2012 1 2 09/10/2016 . 4 2 02/02/2019 02/02/2019 2 I want the data transposed like this, so each Id has only one row: ID startdate1 stopdate1 result1 startdate2 stopdate2 result2 startdate3 stopdate3 result3 startdate4 etc. 1 02/03/2011 02/05/2011 1 03/22/2016 . 3 05/13/2016 05/13/2016 4 2 11/11/2011 11/13/2011 2 03/23/2012 03/23/2012 1 09/10/2016 . 4 02/02/2019 I tried using data step for transposing but I end up having several transposed datasets that confuse me. Thank you Mark for your reply. The variable measuredate in my data set is actually a variable that I created for both my data sets to be able to merge. It is in a format mmyys10. The reason I did that, is because my data1 contains a date variable that has only month and year, while date set 2 has a date variable in format mmddyy10. So I can’t merge two data sets by date variable if it’s not in identical format in both data set, that’s why I created measuredate in mmyys10. I now know the reason why the merge is incorrect, because the measuredate variable is formated but doesn’t mean the day is not there anymore. It means that it is only showing month and year but day is still there not showing. So when I attempted to merge, the day is not matching in both data sets. Thanks

Hello, Thank you for attempting to answer my question. I would like to provide some additional discoveries on my end. The measuredate column in dataset 1 is made of day, month, and year, while the same variable in dataset 2 is only made of a month and year. Therefore, in dataset 1, I created a new measuredate column (from the original measuredate col) that consists only of month and year and I did that to match the variable measuredate in dataset 2. Even tho the newly created col of only month and yr is visible as (09/2017, for example) it is still actually a day, month, and year. I used the below code to create a to component date from the three components date. So, what I have now is a key merging column in dataset 2 that consist of a two component date, while its equivalent in dataset 1 is a three component date that appears as a two component date. I hope I was able to properly represent this to you as I believe the problem lies there.

ABC0005 9/2017 . . . The dataset I am working on is ACTUALLY thousands of observations. When I merge the data sets, I get some observations merged as desired, while the majority of the other observations are appearing as missing data. I am not sure what the problem is.
