Hi Team, Recently,we have been exposed to SAS FAW and IO products as a part of implementation. After studying the process,we have few doubts and want to get it clarified to explain to others in simple terms.Experts help is needed. 1) Here we are going to use the forecasted output for inventory optimization.Though there are IO integration jobs to pick up forecasted output,we want to know where exactly this forecasted output resides meaning which table after my forecast plan is run. 2) In IO,we came to know that forecasted output sits in forecast demand table. How does the forecasted output is used by inventory optimization (in business terms)? 3) What is intermittent demand table and what does it contain? 4) How do we define a network? What is the difference between a primary network and a primary route? 5) What is the use of facility item demand table and what data should be populated here? 6) What is total order quantity and total received quantity in facility item inventory table? Is it number of purchase orders raised and receipts? 7) Use of facility item network table? 😎 Meaning and use of Route Item table? 9) How do we account for pipeline inventory once the good in received? 10) What if customer order or purchase order is cancelled? How is it to be processed? 11) What role does customer order, item cost, lead time, distance, demand play in replenishment policies and order suggestions? (lead time, distance may be used in network algorithms) Thanks, Maddy

Hi Team, I have been using the SAS Access to R3 interface to connect to SAP tables and successfully registered the required metadata for tables in DI Studio.Though it is fine, when I'm trying to create a join on these SAS views to extract required data, it is failing because internally these physical table names start with "/BI0/XXXXXXXXX" and SAS displays it as "_BI0_XXXXXXXX".I cannot load the entire data into separate tables and then extract as it will eat away my space leading to data duplication.I have tried enabling special characters in physical storage under properties of table, but it was of no use. Please let me how to use these "/BI0/XXXXXXXXX" tables directly in my join.Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Maddy

Jaap, If you remember,I have asked few doubts related to Interface to SAP BW long back.Through the data surveyor tool,we were able to extract the cube/dso data successfully based on the RFC user created. But the project required some additional data which is in the PSA (Persistent Staging Area) layer of SAP BW which my SAP connector is not able to connect.Upon enquiry,we came to know PSA tables reside in DB2 (unix platform) and now want to connect to them from SAS environment (DI Studio and SMC ).Not sure how to proceed and whether my same RFC user will work for this connection too or do I need to have some other user credentials. Also,in the ODBC connectivity part,I see IBM Client Db2copy1 installed in my windows machine. Once I get this user credentials right,I can run the LIBNAME function in base SAS as I have datasource and schema details and check it.Later move like what you said. How hostname, port number,DB2 Alias etc are used as part of ODBC connectivity.Need more information. Please help. Thanks, Maddy

Hi Team, As a part of project requirement,we are trying to connect the DB2 database and creating the DB2 Server for the same. Please let me know what are the exact requirements in this case. After research.I came to know about the Database name,Schema name,User credentials are main requirements which have been collected.Which kind of user credentials are needed in this case?We just want to connect to database and extra data.No manipulation is to be done on the DB2 tables.Do separate user needs to be created in this case? Now during server creation, after datasource(database) details, how do I use the authentication domain? How do we create new one with those user credentials? Next when creating new library, schema is used along with above server. But we are facing the error when we are trying to register the tables as below : "SQL1013N The database alias name or database name "XXX" could not be found. SQLSTATE=42705" Thinking that,it might be due to some drivers problem,we tried to see the ODBC connectivity and added db2 client driver with same database in SYSDSN. Then it started giving below error during register tables " SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "24" ("USERNAME AND/OR PASSWORD INVALID"). SQLSTATE=08001" Not able to understand, where are we going wrong and what is the exact procedure to be followed to connect to Db2.Any reference or explanation will be of great help. Thanks, Maddy

Hi All, Can someone help me with this data surveyor tool for SAP BW. I'm not able to identify how the change data capture mechanism works in this area.I came to know from SAP techies that they have request ids generated daily for delta load as a part of their cdc process and is in the form of default package(infoobject). Now when I'm extracting the cube data,I see the Change data capture option on the screen during the process, but couldn't understand how does it work at the back end, neither I see this request id in the fact table generated in the SAS end.Request someone to please help explaining the process in detail as it is urgent.Any reference with some screenshots will be of great help. Thanks, Maddy

Patrick, In my case the hierarchy is something as below : Itemtype (highest) followed by group followed by item (lowest) So,there can be many groups under one type and many items under one group. Here item id is my business key which is unique but in char format. So i want to use the keys for increasing the processing speed. What I understood from above comments is that, i have 3 tables first 1. type (rk for type) 2.group (rk for group and lokup to type) 3. item (rk for item and look up to type & group) Is it correct?

Hi LinusH, My bad!I forgot to mention that I have two more columns "valid from date" and "valid to date" in my target structure.I was using scd type loader and selected these 2 dates for change data capture along with the one retained key as you said, trying to map the other columns. So you mean to say that I need to have different tables for each of them and the get the keys from them. Will try it out.Could you please highlight on that look up process as I don't have much idea on how it works. Regards, Maddy

Hi Team, I have an input dataset in the format as below : ItemID Itemname itemtype typename itemgroup groupname 1 ABC XXX XXXXXXXX A123 XYZ 2 DEF XXX XXXXXXXX A123 XYZ 3 GHI XXX XXXXXXXX B456 ZZZ I need to know the process where I need to use the SCD type 2 retained key for my primary key which is Item id and surrogate keys for type and group accordingly. How should I process with in a single job.I'm new to DI and not able to get the exact flow here. Also,SCD type 2 sometimes gives an error saying "The variable in the DROP, KEEP, or RENAME list has never been referenced".Please help me. Expected output is itemrk itemid itemname typerk type typename grouprk group groupname 1 1 abc 1 xxx xxxxxxxx 1 a123 xyz 2 2 def 1 xxx xxxxxxxx 1 a123 xyz 3 3 ghi 1 xxx xxxxxxxx 2 b456 zzz

Hi Cam, Though long you have put everything very clear.I could get more clarity only when I saw the entire thing running before me only few days ago and its actually tough dealing with that large of Infoobjects,Dimensions,Facts,Star Schema view for a single cube extraction. Moreover,we have to run load job once the tables are registered. Please suggest me how is this extraction when compared to the DSO.For example,as quoted by you, consider there is ZBP_C01 cube and also ZBP_O01 DSO.Ideally speaking,is it true to say I will optimize my time on extracting it from DSO though the information is available in granular level when compare to be Cube which is at summarized level and has lot of factors embedded in it. Also, just wanted to confirm whether is it possible to extract the data from PSA using this SAS SAP BW connector? And,does it allow me to extract only single infoobject like say 0Material in SAP BW,though the same info object might be reflect in different DSOs or Cubes at the backend. When I tried to do that,it said that NO DSO or CUBE selected. Please reply as it is very useful to me.

Jaap, SAS Access 4.4 Interface to R/3 was the same document I was referring to,before posting this question. But was bounced by the condition of not touching R/3 or BW. Now that you are saying that there should license to some of our users to touch them,I will enquire about it. One clarification that is required in this case is that even If I want to establish a connection to BW,should I be going with the same interface? Because as per my understanding,SAP ECC or R/3 is OLTP and SAP BW which is OLAP are connected by a RFC connection.Since the data is already being made available in BW in the form of cubes by the client,I do not want to touch R/3. Please guide me accordingly on how to establish a connection to SAP BW alone using SAS Access 4.4 Interface to R/3 or let me know if there.is any dedicated connector to BW from SAS? Also, how is Data Surveyor different from this interface and what is its use? Thanks, Maddy

Jaap, Thought this is more relevant to data management and posted here.It is the same.I agree that the physical path may not be hardcoded but I wanted an approach on how to automate the process of reading the external csv file. When I searched for it,I could only get the process through external file wizard which has to be done manually as in below links. http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/etlug/62233/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p18he2u3dngiixn1c6gogda9po4o.htm https://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/etlug/62233/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p1h7xnr4n6dmown11ceyi9nmpq7p.htm May be if I'm successful in bringing the file from the location into DI through automated process,I can use the below process using file reader to get my job done to populate the data into target table. http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/etlug/62233/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p1234xgaebca36n1t9r99vxfu1k7.htm Please let me know if my requirement is not clear and in case of additional information. Thanks, Maddy

Hi, As a part of project,I got the data in CSV file at a certain path. Now,I want to read this file dynamically into SAS DI Studio to process further. How should I design a job which runs periodically reading this file from the respective location and registers the file in SAS DI with full data initially and then incremental in later runs. I have an idea of External file Wizard,ODBC connectivity and User written code for complex external files. But,what I want here to completely automate the process of reading file from FTP path into SAS DI by scheduling a job. Please help. Thanks, Maddy

Hi,
I'm working on a project where in I need to extract the data from SAP BW which is in the form of cubes.Though,I see that there is SAS Interface to R3,I'm not able to trace as in how to connect to SAP BW.As we have got instructions from the client not to touch the R3 or BW environment internally,I would like to know the possible alternatives of establishing connectivity with SAP BW from SAS.
(FYI,I found information about SAP Open Hub Service and APD which needs to get inside BW environment for set up and hence doesn't serve my purpose completely)
Thanks,
Maddy
