Hi All, I am running the a firm fixed effect regression to find the residual, but the error message says my CLASS variable has only one level. My regression has only one independent variable which I call it 'independent_variable_TACC', and the dependent variable is 'dependent variable_BTD'. I used PROC REG to get residuals before by adding a '/r' after MODEL command, but it seems like PROC GLM does not work in that way. I attached my codes herewith. I am not sure if I need to add both firm_code (gvkey) and year (fyear) in CLASS or only firm_code is needed. Can anyone tell me how do I get the residual from a firm fixed effect regression? I really appreciate for any help with this problem. Hi Mkeintz, Thanks for your respond. I used your codes in my datafile and there is zero observations generated. I attached some excel files herewith to illustrate what I have and what I want. 1. I extract a small sample of my data file -- input 2. The output file I got after running your codes -- output 3. My expected output file -- rep.output In rep.output file, I manually calculated the sum of five years' txt; however, the extracted input file is not representative since there is no missing values in the sample. Therefore, I made up a even smaller sample in the same file (rep.output) with some missing values and explain the reason why I exclude some sums. I hope you can help me with this. Thanks in advance. Thanks for your reply. txt is numeric and it is the total income taxes for each given year.

My data is annual data, so what I mean by three consecutive years with no missing data is that no missing data for a year.

Hi All, Here are what I have in my dataset. The year identifier -- fyear, the company identifier -- gvkey and the variable interested -- txt. I want to have the sum of txt for each firm over a five-year period (year t to year t-4) and require at least three consecutive years of non-missing data. I am using SAS 9.4. I got suggested to use PROC SUMMARY and NMISS output, so I referred to Syntax for them, but I cannot work it out. Then I tried to look for any similar examples to use those, which I could not find either. Could anyone please let me know what codes I need to use or give me some examples I can refer to? Hi Paige Miller, I wasn't able to use NMISS as I cannot find any similar examples. Here are what I have in my dataset. The year identifier -- fyear, the company identifier -- gvkey and the variable interested -- txt. I want the sum of txt over a five year period (year t to year t-4) and require at least three consecutive years of non-missing data. Hi All, My dataset has a year identifier -- fyear, a two-digit industry code -- sid2d and the variable interested -- Resid. I want to eliminate observations where there are fewer than ten observations in a two-digit industry code (sid2d) for a given year (fyear). Can anyone tell me how to write the codes for this? Hi Paige, Thanks for your prompt reply. I will look at PROC SUMMARY first. Is there a command I can use to check the missing values for each firm? I need BY groups to see if there are 3 years without missing values as well. Thanks again for your help. Best regards, Jiaxin

Hello everyone, I am new to SAS (using SAS 9.4) and I need some help with one variable I use for my research. I need to generate a variable (let's call it variable A for simplicity), which is the sum of variable B over a five-year horizon, from the current year back to four years ago (i.e. from year t-4 to year t). I also needs to use BY Group command for variable A to make sure the sum is with respect to each firm. On top of this, variable B needs to have at least three consecutive years of non-missing data for computing variable A. I looked at the SUM function and I couldn't figure out how to do the sum for an interval with BY command, and also considering non-missing value. I really appreciate any help.
