The reason yours failed is incorrect use of by group processing in a sas datastep. Just a matter of understanding this concept and you'll do fine. All the best!

The %PUT statement writes out characters in quotes, because you added quotes in the %PUT statement. These are different: %put "&&days&i"; %put &&days&i; As was noted, to get math to be computed, you need to apply a function. Easiest: %let days&i = %eval(&i * 10);

Possibly the question about the interpretation of elements of the assignment is good training. In my job I am often asked to provide a summary of some sort. The first thing I do with the requestor with is clarifying who gets counted because often the have a not-initially-specified filter needed. Such as "women" can turn out to be "women aged 18 to 25 receiving one or more of these services in first 6 months of state fiscal year xxxx". So learning to identify the meaning of something as innocuous as "number of days" some times requires questions like "days with recorded data", "days that should have had recorded data as the first/last day of each week" or "interval between first and last" or something else depending on the project.

Yeah, you definitely have path issues and should resolve that first. But I'm not sure that's something we can answer. It depends on your set up and where you're allowed to save things. Since this is likely running on a SAS server, I would ask your SAS administrator where you should be saving things.

I think adding the where statement will make it work. Thank you! Both data sets have two columns, one has Tech and SubTech, and the other has SubTech and Data. The data sets I showed were small examples of very large 500k+ rows of information. Missing the first entry just due to missing it when providing my example. The values ABCD, ABCE...etc, are just in the dataset. Those are the fake versions of the subtech names, and are values, not separate variables, which I assume should be the top column if they were supposed to be variables. I don't just join them because there is some slight complexities I know how to deal with that I'm glossing over with respect to the SubTech column, which actually contains multiple techs, and therefore the two SubTech columns are not identical. I can use the where statement along with an index indicator function to get around that though. I was trying to take advantage of the internal loop structure of the data step by using a sorted data set and the first/last commands. Perhaps badly. I'll check out that link. Thank you for your help!

$HOME is an environment variable on Unix, and you can get it with the %SYSGET function: %let home = %sysget(HOME); %put &home.; Then use &home. in your file path references.

You are mixing variable name with variable value. Is 'Place_A' a variable name ? If YES maybe you want to add LABEL Place_A = 'Place A'; then define you prefer use lables in the chart/report instead variable names. Otherwise - see my previous post.

LIBNAME is used to define library of SAS datasets. INFILE is used without the equal (=) sign to assign external file to read. When you write 'infile=...' it is as if you want to assign value to a variable called infile. So, you have matched 3 different tools. I assume you menat to do: filename yi 'path/filename'; data test; infile yi TERMSTR = LF; length Year $6; input Year ForecastOut F25 T25; run; Try to run it. In case of issues post your full log.
