Why is it harder to edit the program than to edit the %LET statement? Unless you are talking about generating the code from source table. In that case you need show us the source table and explain the rules for generating the code. Personally I find that complex code generation is easier to do by using a data step to write the code to a text file. You can then use %INCLUDE to execute the code you generated. ... View more

The performance won't change with EG versions. The performance of a SAS program depends solely on the SAS workspace server. If that does not change, the performance won't. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preferences. Unless your company dictates a method.    I would create a small project in each method and you'll get a feel for what works for you.    Look at EG features you don't have in Base, diagrams, multiple process flows, colour coding, prompts, links to Git etc and decide what you need and want.  ... Hi @LineMoon   My 2 cents here:   If i understood correclty you want to ask, if there will be a difference in the size of the file created, if you use LRECL and if you don't.   Please note that, if you don't use LRECL= in the file ouput statement, then sas by default uses the LRECL=32767 and creates the file.   if your data has record length less than 1000 and you use lrecl=1000, then there won't be any difference in size, cause its the logical length and not physical length , which denotes the maximum bytes it can store in a row.   Thanks, Manjeet ... @LineMoon You really need to explain better what you have and what you're after. Is this directory you're talking about the folder "Files" you see in the Server tree in EG or SAS Studio?   And you would want to know the path to "Files" as set in SMC?   This root path should never change once defined for a server so easiest would be to get the information from your SAS Admin.   So far I couldn't find an automatic macro variable or the like containing this root path and I want to avoid proposing to query SAS Metadata directly. May be ask your SAS Admin to define such a macro variable in the Server Context autoexec which contains this root path so you can use it programmatically.   Another way: Go to a sub-folder and add a SAS table to your project.
