I need some help determining the maximum and minimum length of Character and Numeric variables. Right now, the program never ends, and it seems the program is in an endless loop, with the log populating with the same note n number of times. Is there another efficient way of achieving this? I am trying to write a program involving a macro, and it fails at a very initial stage. Code: options symbolgen mprint mlogic; %let lib=aa_temp1; %let dsname=Party_Details; %macro test; data test11; set &lib..&dsname.; run; %mend; %test(); Error when executed: SYMBOLGEN: Macro variable lib resolves to aa_temp1 SYMBOLGEN; Macro variable dsname resolves to Party_Details data test11; set &lib..&dsname.; run; ____ 180 ERROR 180-322: Statement is not valid or used out of proper order. MPRIINT(TEST): Set aa_temp1.Party_Details; I have tried the dsname in Set as &dsname as well as &dsname. , and there is the same error. Tried searching for the error, and still not sure why this simple line generates error. What is that I am missing?

I should have been clear with what I wanted !! I would like to check special characters, but skip for date when the date format has colon in it, and skip currency when it has a decimal in it.

Hello Members, I have a list of variables from different tables and I am trying to filter results by finding special characters using Anypunct function. While it is working mostly, I have encountered few scenarios where the logic fails. Example: SAS brings in date from Oracle in this format DDMMMYYY:00:00:00 Anypunct considers colon ( : ) as a special character, flags the date field. Note: I cannot treat date separately, as the variables come in one by one in a loop. Similarly, for currency field, i.e. where there is an amount after decimal, ($72.50 or 52.33) the function considers that decimal as a special character. What would be an efficient way to counter this? Thank you in advance.

Hello Mike, I was checking the datatype of the variable,i.e. whether it is Char or Numeric. Based on that, I was doing some extra operation with if-else.

Hello Members, Hope all is well. I need some help on an issue that I am facing on SAS. Problem Statement: I need to apply various character functions on multiple columns from multiple tables, where columns are character and numeric. Now, as character functions will not work on numeric variables, I will convert them to character as well. As I will have a loop in which variables will appear one by one inside the functions, I need a way to segregate the variables, i.e. char variable will go to char processing block and numeric variable will go to numeric processing block. I am trying to write a program which will send variables to their respective processing block, but unable to do so based on their type. How can I attach their data type in the code? I have looked at dictionary.columns, but could not do it. Example: I would like to see whether the columns have negative (-) sign in them. Table Column Type Tab_M H_A Char Tab_M H_B Num Tab_N G_A Char Tab_N G_B Num Index(..., '-') works on Character variable, and Index(Put(...), w.), '-') works on Numeric variable. But I need to send variables to the respective blocks dynamically, based on their data type. Hello Jaap, That helped. I have installed some older versions, but prod and test are on the same platform now. Installation was okay, some pain was there at the post installation procedure. And those are done too. SAS institute helped as well, in finding some hotfix files. Thank you.

Hello All, I am facing a situation regarding sas hotfix deployment. Here is the situation: I have a prod and a newly built test environment, both on Linux64 with sas 9.2 installed. The prod server has a few hotfixes applied on various products, i.e. Base sas, SAS MO Server, MA Automation launcher etc. Now, the test server should have the exactly same configuration as prod in terms of deployed hotfixes. Having said this, let me consider one hot fix for simplicity. Hotfix E08005( which is a little old, currently E08010) has already been applied in prod years ago, and the test server should also have E08005 applied. Once prod and test has the exact same configuration and the same products on test are working as flawlessly as prod, I can go for latest hotfixes for both the server/environment. Here comes the problem. On the sas webpage for E08005, the download link for the hotfix file points to hotfix E08010, instead of E08005. It shows that hotfix E08005 is replaced by hotfix E08010. http://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/hotfix/HF2/E/E08/E08005/xx/lax/E08005la.html If I cannot install hotfix E08005, the whole purpose of making Prod and Test the same is beaten. So I have downloaded the bin file for E08005 from this website. http://misc.esd.sasinstitute.net/hotfix/HF2/E/E08/E08005/xx/lax/ Question is, when SAS has discontinued E08005 and moved to E08010, would it be advisable to install E08005? Will products stop working after installing E08005la.bin? Eagerly waiting for your expert advice and guidance. Thank you.

Hello Members, I have recently shifted to administration from programming and started having problems. Our users are trying to connect to Linux server using Enterprise Guide. Though they were able to connect, the login was taking longer than usual. A check with management console revealed all the servers are up and running. Now, I am not sure exactly where to start looking for the solution. I have found a few papers, but those are on solving EG connection issues when connection is broken. I would be greatly benefited if you could guide me towards any documentation/papers or any other solution. Is there a way to find a solution using PUTTY and the concerned server? Hello Members, Looking for some advice here. I have three proc sql statements generating three different tables, based on increasing where condition. Example: proc sql; create table ds1 as select a.id, a.dt, a.unit from tab1 a where a.id not in (select b.id from tab2 b); quit; proc sql; create table ds2 as select a.id, a.dt, a.unit from tab1 a where a.id not in (select sai_nbr from tab2) and a.id not in (select sai_nbr from tab3); quit; proc sql; create table ds3 as select a.id, a.dt, a.unit from tab1 a where a.id not in (select sai_nbr from tab2) and a.id not in (select sai_nbr from tab3) and a.id not in (select sai_nbr from tab4); quit; Now, I'd like to create all three data sets in one proc sql or data step. For that, where conditions have to executed conditionally, i.e. when ds1 then one where condition, when ds2 then two where conditions and so on. I was thinking of creating a counter, and based on increasing value of the counter from 1 to n, the number of where conditions increase. But I'm not sure how to execute increasing where conditions in consecutive iterations. Compared to data step and proc step, what would be the most efficient and how do I approach the problem? Any advice/idea will be appreciated.

Hello Members, I need some help on formatting a sas date. I have character field E_Date_Time, where values are in the format "9/1/2011 9:25:36". Now, I need the values in date format as "09/01/2011 09:25:36". My code is not working the way I want it to work. I am trying to extract the date and time from E_Date_Time, format them separately and attach them back. The date and time can be separated by ':' or space. data want: format E_Date mmddyy10.; set have; E_Date=input(tranwrd(E_Date_Time, ' 0:00:00', ' '), mmddyy10.); E_Time=scan(E_Date_Time, -1,' '); E_Date_Time_New=catx(':', E_Date, E_Time); run; The result of var E_Date_Time_New for the above mentioned value is: 18871:9:25:36 Thank you for your time.
