Thx SASKiwi but i think i"d go with the dsn connection . shorter n quicker. One silly question though. If i decide to do the dns-less connection to sqlsvr or connection to odbc i would not need the odbc.ini? And the syntax(inside the brackets) for both would be the same ?

so i changed the path and also added the credentials i use to log into windows and changed the port to 9621 as advised by some of the guys in different depts who has used it PROC IMPORT OUT= TEMP DATAFILE= "\\aaa\vv\bbb\tt\ccc\dd\Book1.xlsx" DBMS=EXCELCS REPLACE; PORT=9621; SERVER="xyz.abc.com"; SHEET='Sheet1'; SERVERUSER='domain\userid'; SERVERPASS='****'; RUN; and the error : ERROR: Server is unable to authenticate user credentials. (missing or invalid SERVERUSER='<domain\username>'; SERVERPASS='<password>'; enclosed in quotes). so looks like i dont have the right SERVER's name above huh? ps.this is an excel file import as oopose the access i initially had posted

Thanks Jan i did the ping test and it never stopped pinging 🙂 i did the telnet test and connection to 6291 was refused but i could reach 6921 and i someone mentioned i should use this port so still a possible firewall issue ?

hi, so i just got pc files server installed and i read many articles saying one should be able to access pc files from unix sas . I have SAS 64bit and Ofifce 32 bit i tried my code on pc sas first and it worked: PROC IMPORT DATATABLE=SLOCCov DBMS=ACCESSCS OUT=TEMP1 REPLACE;; DATABASE="Y:\xx\yyy\zzz.accdb"; DBDSOPTS='READBUFF=30'; RUN; but then when i ran it on EG SAS(Remote) i got an error PROC IMPORT DATATABLE=SLOCCov DBMS=ACCESSCS OUT=TEMP1 REPLACE;; DATABASE="Y:\xx\yyy\zzz.accdb"; PORT=9261; SERVER="xyz.abc.com"; DBDSOPTS='READBUFF=30'; RUN; ERROR: A socket routine returned error: The connection was refused. ERROR: Failed to connect to the Server: *******.com. 1. Can i really import pc files into UNIX SAS? 2.Name of server will be my computer name right? 3. Any insights on this error please thx

thx SASKiwi, you are actually right. Ran(on PC SAS) the same query with "odbc" and it works too,also tried the libname engine ,that works as well LIBNAME Mylib ODBC DSN=RFM user=&uid pw=&pwd; proc sql; connect to odbc as RFM (user=&uid password=&pwd dsn=RFM); create table temp_postal1 as Now when i tried running the above query from UNIX: proc sql; connect to SQLSVR as RFM (dsn=RFM user=&uid password=&pwd); i am getting this: ERROR: CLI error trying to establish connection: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified but i am positive this has to do with the odbc.ini file which the support team said would update with my SQL SERVER connection strings Thanks again

Are u saying that i might need the windows server name and a port since the DB is on a different machine?

hi, this below runs on pc sas,no issues but it does not on EG SAS (Remote) : ERROR: The SQLSERVR engine cannot be found. ERROR: A Connection to the sqlservr DBMS is not currently supported, or is not installed at your site. proc sql; connect to sqlservr as RFM (user=&uid password=&pwd server=&srvr database=&DB ); create table a as select * from connection to RFM (select Branch AS BRANCH_NUM, District, Region, "Branch Name" as BRANCH_NAM, "District Name" as DISTRICT_N, "Region Name" as REGION_NAM from vw_RetailBranchListing); disconnect from RFM; quit; and from the logs i can see that PC SAS is not licenced for a SQLSERV access : ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to ODBC ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to OLE DB but SAS UNIX is and still cannot run that above query ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to DB2 ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to Oracle ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to ODBC ---SAS/ACCESS Interface to Microsoft SQL Server Can anyone explain this to me please? but my access data is in unix already. I transferred the access database to my UNIX SAS folders Will i still need the pc file server?

Hi, So i have Access Database with 2 tables dropped in one of the folders in the share drive by another team. I need to import the tables in EG SAS(Remote) and i even moved that db in my unix folders. When trying to import the tables using the proc import wizard i get the attached message and when running the libname code from below i get the following error: LIBNAME mylib pcfiles PATH="xxx/External/yy/xx.accdb"; ERROR: The SERVER= option is required for establishing a connection through the SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files. What Server option they talking about if i have it all in UNIX? Anyone please PS. i have office 2010 so it has to be that system driver thing whatever that means

They did say they approved my access to this dataset on the mainframe yesterday so i am wondering if this is some FTP connection issues?

hi, one issue after the other so you know how we have "files" and "libraries" below SASApp in EG SAS The "files" does not list the folders where i have my codes. looks like the location needs to be moved 2 levels up How do i do that? I dont think there would be anyhting i could do in UNIX right? please advise thx
