In December 2019, a new respiratory disease was discovered in Wuhan, China. The illness is caused by a new type of coronavirus, known as 'severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2,' or SARS-CoV-2. The illness that can result from this virus infection is called 'coronavirus disease 2019,' or COVID-19. On March 11, 2020 – WHO declared the outbreak a global pandemic. The Road to Recovery - Global Impact of Coronavirus outbreak You can download the full 4K high resolution poster from here (3064x4619, ~5MB, PNG) This SAS Visual Analytics infographic shows the global impact on selected countries as of June 24, 2020. While some countries are well into recovery - others have just seen the start of the outbreak. The report shows the top 24 countries measured by total number of confirmed cases and the related development of new and active cases (using a 7 day moving average). You can also see the peak of new cases since the outbreak started. For some countries the peak occurred very recently - clearly indicating that this pandemic isn't over just yet... This report uses a precision container for each country to better organize related KPI's. I'm using a simple data-driven-content object to render the country flag and standard objects such as geo for the faded background country map. Due to the detail and number of countries I wanted to include, the report ended up very high resolution. It's best viewed on a high resolution monitor. ---------- Update December 6, 2020 -------------- It has been a little while since I last updated this infographic - so here is the new ranking based on numbers recorded December 6, 2020. A lot has changed - compared to the June 2020 snapshot. Particularly worrying are the very recent peak dates in many countries - indicating, this pandemic is far from over. If you just need the actual coordinates you could simply import your shape files into SAS. Related PROC IMPORT function helps you to import the shape file into a SAS data sets. Once loaded into Visual Analytics, you can define a new geographical item based on your x/y coordinates (latitude/longitude) and visualize the data using the object 'geo coordinates'. I'm not too sure whether you wanted to visualize the actual grid ref cell as well? If so - you could try the 'geo region+coordinates' object and use the 'region' layer to visualize the cells. Now, for the region layer you will need a custom polygon provider representing the grid cells. There are a number of tutorials online how to create such provider - a good one to start is probably https://blogs.sas.com/content/sgf/2018/02/07/creating-regional-map-custom-polygons-sas-visual-analytics-8-2/ . I'm not too sure whether your shape files contains the grid cells or just the data for biodiversity? If you don't have the data, you could probably also create such grid data set using some basic coding. I believe this would be just a matter of preparing your input data accordingly. The built-in VA network diagram supports node as well as edge attributes. So a node attribute for instance would be TYPE which may have value of 'Person' or 'Hospital' etc. You can use this value later in VA to color nodes differently dependent on this type. You may also decide to create a display rule to use an icon instead, e.g. a person or related house icon for hospital. The same applies to edges - if you input data set contains attributes, e.g. volume, transaction type, etc. - you may use this as role for the edge width or color. There are two types of networks in Visual Analytics: Ungrouped Hierarchical Dependent on your data source, you need to select the correct type. Your image 1 shows an ungrouped data set (one which uses the typical source->target structure as per your sample file). These data set have a SOURCE and TARGET column which you need to assign accordingly to the related roles. The second screen (SASHELP.CARS) is not an ungrouped data set but rather represents a hierarchical structure. If you need to use this type of data source - I suggest creating a hierarchy (e.g. Origin->Make) and change the network type to 'hierarchical (options panel-> change type). Once done - assign this new hierarchy to the levels role in the roles panel. If done correctly - you should see links between each of your level nodes. Hope this helps. Falko

Have you maybe declined the Esri terms and conditions in user settings? Can you open the user settings and navigate to SAS Visual Analytics -> Geographic Mapping? It should have a check box next to the 'Accept Esri ArcGIS Online Services T&C'. If this doesn't help - let's try something else. Can you open SAS Visual Analytics in Chrome and open the Chrome developer tools (F12 on Win)? With the developer tools open - open the network tab and type in 'services.arcgis' in the top filter box (makes it easier to find the related requests). Once VA is fully loaded - you should see a few related requests. Each of those should have a status 200 - but I suspect it isn't in your case. If you see something else - you can click on the related request and may be able to see some more details on why it failed. If this all doesn't help - you may have to get in touch with SAS Technical Support. I suspect they have more ideas on how to debug this further. Cheers, Falko

Hi! Has there been any changes in network configuration recently? Esri map services are received from https://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services. Typically if SAS Visual Analytics falls back to default OpenStreetMap - it indicates a network issue connecting to this URL. Sometimes firewall changes for instance could prevent access. You may also ask your SAS administrator to check whether the above URL is still listed in the white list as part of the cross-domain configuration (should be default). Hi Julia - Unfortunately I don't think the underlying Sankey diagram can do that. As soon as you have one or more cross links (or exit paths) to another event - it's the nature of this particular diagram to curve accordingly. I could be wrong - but it seems the curvature is mainly driven by the 'A..' event in the beginning - as it requires space to render. You may have noticed the rather straight line for VAV towards the end. I'm not sure what this event is about - but if it isn't important in your context, you could right-click on the visual and add a related path filter to exclude it. But I will also forward this example to our graph rendering team and see whether this can be improved in future. Maybe paths with higher weight could take precedence when rending to prevent unnecessary curvature. One last quick note - your example below has many repetitive events along the path. You may be able to take advantage of the 'compress' option (right hand options panel) which would try to reduce the overall path length and may represent the event order better. Regards, Falko

It seems you performed a drill down to level 2 of your hierarchy - as such you will only see nodes on that level. If you want to see both levels (and related link between) - go to the top level (you can use the top level breadcrumb) and make sure the 'additional level' slider in the options panel is at least set to 2. Yes, that is correct. Only SAS Administrators or users with elevated permissions can create/update/delete providers. The reason for this requirement is driven by the fact that providers are shared across reports and a change here may affect all reports. ;-). This one is a little harder to recreate. I have used the auto data refresh option ('playback') in VA 8.5 view mode to achieve the sync'd update of all objects (e.g. the text object used for the year counter and bar chart). Not as practical in real-life business reports but it was the simplest way to achieve this special kind of animation. An underlying calculated item based on the current time was used to filter the data by year. The mentioned auto-refresh then caused the filter to change - ultimately returning data for a different years during playback - simulating an animation effect. Country flags were are done using a geo map without map background and special display rules. If you just have a single visualization, e.g. bar chart or geo map - then using the animation role based on a date/time variable is a much better way obviously. Cheers, Falko

Watch this bar chart race comparing total CO2 emissions and the global impact in carbon footprint by country. It shows the changes in the ranking of the world's countries between 1948 and 2014 by total CO2 emissions from fossil-fuel burning, cement production, and gas flaring. Total emissions are expressed in thousand metric tons of carbon (not CO2). This visualization was created using SAS Viya and SAS Visual Analytics. Enjoy!
