Q&A
How does the new SAS Studio handle large datasets — will I notice a difference in speed?
This largely should stay the same, as in the previous versions. There is faster UI of the application. We are not changing how we process data. We still use the same processing engines that we used before. Therefore, processing speed will stay the same. But it's also important to remember, in Studio, we are friendly in terms of ETL and ELT capabilities. We try to push down, as much as possible, calculations to a database. We also go further with this approach in a few transformations when we always generate SQL explicit for a database. It will be guaranteed that your transformations will be executed within database. This is especially important for data integration transformations like merge for example or slowly changing dimensions. For them, we always execute the logic of the transformation within database. But, just in case processing in database is not possible, we have our own agent, an engine which is able just to extract this data and do any type of processing. To summarize, the processing time for data should stay more or less the same. We're not changing this, but it is important to remember that we have a lot of good functionalities to be able to optimize this processing. We try to help you optimize the processing as much as possible.
Will this new version require any retraining for current users?
No, I don't think so. As you've probably seen during the demo, the application looks the same, behaves the same. There are just a couple of slight differences in terms of the look of the UI. But it's still the same.
The demo you are performing - is it in Studio Basic, Analyst or Engineer?
Studio Engineer.
For copy & paste, do you have to scroll all the way down to the last row in order to be able to copy the entire table? Does ctrl+A work?
When you use copy functionality in table viewer, you can copy a range of cells. You can also do control + a shortcut if you want to select all the rows. This shortcut will select all rows that you scrolled until. For example, if you scrolled until 500, then control A will copy 500. It won't copy the entire table. If you want to copy the entire table, we offer a possibility to export the table. Typically, we believe it’s probably the main use case for copying all rows of a table - to export this table into another format. You can export the table into multiple formats, for example, CSV delimited files. Also, in the July release, we introduced the ability to export to excel.
Can you export to Excel from the table view window?
Yes, as of 2025.07 July release, you can do it. We support XLSX format for export into Excel.
Are you able to kill background submitted jobs now?
No, this is not supported currently, but this is in work.
It would be nice to have the ability to filter column results in custom steps. If I want to show a product list from a product name column, I would like to be able to filter by a certain category. I wonder if this is part of the custom steps options when building a selection option for an item. Just a dropdown list would be fine.
Currently it is not supported, but we’re happy to consider it as a new feature request. Please feel free to add a feature request via SAS Communities or via your point of contact at SAS.
What about non-Viya SAS9?
The new version of Studio is only available in Viya 4 platform.
I have SAS studio 3.82. How can I obtain this version?
SAS Studio 3.82 is part of a previous Viya release. To access the new capabilities introduced in Viya 2025.06, including the latest SAS Studio updates, you’ll need to upgrade to the Viya 2025.06 release. If you're a SAS administrator, you can coordinate with your IT team or SAS account representative to schedule the upgrade. If you're unsure who manages your Viya deployment, I’d recommend reaching out to your internal SAS admin or your SAS Customer Success Manager for guidance. You can find more related information on SAS Studio here: https://support.sas.com/en/software/studio-support.html#documentation
The new version of Studio is only available in Viya 4 platform.
How do you skip to the end of the table in the new viewer?
In the new SAS Studio table viewer (as of Viya 2025.06), you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + End to jump directly to the last row and last column of the table. If you're on a Mac, try Command + End or Fn + Command + →, depending on your keyboard settings. If the shortcut doesn’t work as expected, make sure the table viewer has focus (click inside the table first), and check your browser or OS settings, as some combinations may be intercepted by the system. Disconnected Libraries became Saved Definitions?
Yes, that’s correct! In SAS Viya 2025.06, “Saved Definitions” is the new term that replaces “Disconnected Libraries”.
Will we have to be on Viya to have this new updated SAS Studio?
Yes, you will have to be on Viya 4 platform
I hope the Jobs will have the details for the current scheduled time now. If I need to edit a schedule, I cannot do it right now. Is that an option now? Would it show the current scheduled time/previously selected options?
It’s already possible to edit schedule information for a job and see the current schedule (when opening a job for editing schedule information). We plan to add the ability to view next run time field in this view, so it will also be possible to see when a job will run next time.
Can what you showed be done in Studio basic or do we need Studio engineer?
I’ve been doing a demo in Studio Engineer. Please feel free to take a look at comparison of different versions of Studio in our documentation: https://go.documentation.sas.com/doc/en/webeditorcdc/v_057/webeditorug/n0i7sfl7gk0befn171o127l885nn.htm
Are we able to open a local SAS file from the same OS session running SAS Studio?
The question is not clear. It would be good to have more details.
Will there be support for DuckDB?
Yes, SAS has added support for SAS/Access to DuckDB in 2025.07 stable release.
