Q&A
I don't see the SAS Pane in my Microsoft 365 in Excel. How can I add it in?
SAS for Microsoft 365 uses new Office add-in technology with the big pros of offering cross-platform support and centralized deployment and distribution, meaning it is managed and deployed by an administrator. Once your admin has configured the required steps outlined in our documentation, users with access to SAS for Microsoft 365 will see a new SAS tab on their Microsoft application ribbon immediately.
In the long run, other products should be supported, such as LibreOffice. A first step is probably to document a “work-around” - store the data in the ordinary MS-format. Perhaps that is enough.
At this time, we are focusing our SAS integration capabilities on the Microsoft 365 suite of applications. That being said, we’re always looking for product suggestions, so if you have any feedback please bring it to us via SAS Product Suggestions.
Are all the features you showed available in the web version of Excel or only desktop?
Our functionality is available across both web and desktop versions of Microsoft applications. You should be able to access your SAS Visual Analytics reports, interact with them, insert report content into your Office documents, and update that embedded content as needed from both web and desktop versions.
What should I consider if I want to code in Excel using this integration or in SAS Studio? Why would I choose one over the other?
The big pro of using the SAS code editor in Excel is utilizing the integration between SAS and Excel – such as if you want to create and run programs in order to embed those results into your Excel worksheets. That's a big driver of using the code editor. But people also love the coding interface of SAS Studio for various reasons - if they want to use custom steps that Studio offers, for example. The great thing is, no matter what SAS coding interface you're using, you can still leverage the SAS programs that you create and save in SAS Studio in SAS for Microsoft 365 and vice versa.
Where do I learn how to set this up from an admin side?
Steps for a SAS Administrator are documented extensively in the SAS for Microsoft 365 documentation, specifically here for the 2024.01 release.
How do I integrate SAS with Outlook or MS Team on SAS 9.4? Are there any web links?
SAS for Microsoft 365 is included with SAS Visual Analytics on the SAS Viya platform. For customers running on the SAS 9.4 platform, please view the capabilities available with SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office: https://support.sas.com/en/software/add-in-microsoft-office-support.html
